If you've made it this far, thank you. Whether you're LGBTQ+ yourself, questioning, or an ally reading to understand someone you love, I hope Charlie and Jesse's story resonated with you.
This book was born from a simple observation: we live in a time when acceptance is supposedly the norm, yet young queer people still navigate a world that assumes heterosexuality as the default. Every day, they hear "do you have a girlfriend?" when they might want a boyfriend, or "do you have a boyfriend?" when they might want neither, or both, or something entirely their own.
The horse in the title, Thunderclap, represents the world's expectations. He bites first (makes assumptions), and Charlie punches back (reacts with fear or anger). But by the end, both horse and human have learned to coexist. The journey from violence to understanding is what this story is really about.
If you're struggling, please know: it gets better. Not perfect, not easy, but better. You are not alone. You are not broken. You are worthy of love exactly as you are.
