The Last Knock
Thomas fell into the grave, but the soil was no longer just earth it was a seal, a barrier keeping the creature trapped. The villagers shoveled faster, chanting in low tones that vibrated through the ground.
The monster moved beneath him, hitting against the dirt. Its massive limbs clawed at the soil, glowing eyes burning with rage, but it could not escape.
Thomas felt the pressure of the soil and the weight of the villagers' purpose. He realized the horrifying truth: if they failed, the thing below would devour everything, starting with him.
The old woman looked down at him, voice trembling for the first time:
"Every year, one must be offered not for the ground… but for the monster beneath it."
Thomas's reflection in the mirror changed, merging with the creature's shadows. He screamed, not for himself, but at the thought of what would happen if the villagers ever failed.
The dirt finally sealed the grave. Silence returned. The monster was trapped, Thomas marked forever, a witness to the dark secret Hollow's End buried each year.
