There I was, standing at the altar in my wedding dress, with two options stuck in my head.
First option: run away cause why not, the doors were wide open, looking like gates to freedom but also gates to a huge trap
Second option: stay still and quiet, get married and stay alive.
So yeah I stuck to the second option....y'all wondering how this story began, well let me take you back to 3 months ago
Flashback
I got the worst news of my life on a cold rainy night, I was in the living room, laying on a long couch listening to music on my headphone which was on a low volume, I heard the front door slam shut and my parents walked in, I took off my headphones and hung them around my neck and properly on the couch. The look on my parents faces said something was wrong.
"Hey mom, hey dad what's with the long face?" I said worried
They heads turned to my direction as if just realizing I was also present in the living room. The both walked to the other long couch opposite me and took their seats, as they sat on the couch, they sighed and their shoulders were slumped down as if depressed, then my mom opened her mouth to speak.
"Sweetie we have something to tell you but promise me after we tell you this, you won't hate us... especially your dad"
My mom's words not only put me on edge but also made me start to imagine different scenarios each one worse than the first.
"I promise, now please tell me what's wrong, you're scaring me" I said with a look of panic
My parents both looked at each other in worry, contemplating on which of them would break the news to me.
"A few years ago I borrowed a huge amount of money from the loan sharks who were rumored to be involved with the mob, but I didn't care cause you were sick" said dad
I stared at my dad in utter shock not knowing what to say, I remembered what he was talking about, me being sick I think I was 16 (I'm 21 now) that's approximately 5 years ago, mom and I asked dad where he go the money from he said something about receiving a favor from an old friend of his.
"DAD YOU DID WHAT!!!?" I screamed in anger
My dad winced from the way I screamed cause that was the first time I was raising my voice at him.
"Dear I'm so sorry, I'm telling you now cause the loan sharks are after your mom and I, I don't want them coming after you too." Said dad
I placed my head on my palms, pulling my hair out of frustration and sighed.
"Um...I..I..also had an agreement with the loan sharks in case I couldn't pay back the money, I had to..to..to"
Dad's stuttering was making me impatient and making me go half crazy
"DAD JUST SPILL IT!!" i shouted
"Fine, I was told that a child of mine would have to marry an heir of the mob boss"
As soon as those words sank into my ears, my heart dropped and I sank back into the couch, my shoulders slumped down as I looked at my dad who was looking at me, waiting for my reaction.
"Dad.... Did you forget Im the only child you have?" I said trying to sound calm and not mad
I turned to looked aty mom who was crying histerically, her face smudge with makeup especially the mascara.
"Mom did you know about this too?"
She shook her head and I just looked up at the ceiling, devastated and not knowing how to express myself or even the anger inside of me.
I don't know how I got through the frustration and anger, but I do know one thing 'my life wasn't gonna be the way it used to be'
