Chapter 2

Elise and Samuel had a long conversation at the nearby tavern, it was safe to say she was utterly in love. Samuel was so charming, handsome, and goofy. He shared stories about his experience in Bethlehem, his Beliefs, and traditions. He told her about his past and family.

"I must ask, what brings you all the way here? It must have been quite a trip," Elise wondered. Samuel chuckled, a hearty gentle laugh that warmed Elise's heart.

"Why, for the opportunity to meet a lovely girl like yourself, of course," he teased, his voice rich and warm. Elise blushed, feeling her cheeks heat up at his compliment. She looked down at her hands, fidgeting with the hem of her pure white dress.

On the other side of the tavern were Azrael and Michael, who were watching the couple intensely while also in disguise. Micha'el disguised himself as a typical Prussian man, while Azrael disguised himself as "Samuel's" brother.

"That poor woman, she has no idea an archdemon is deceiving her," Micha'el shook his head in disapproval, watching as she blushed and giggled at almost everything Samuel did. Elise and Samuel went outside, where they heard the church bell ring.

"Oh goodness, I need to return him!" Elise realized a bit panicked.

"Huh? So soon?" Samuel asked, sounding a bit disappointed.

"I'm sorry, but my father is very strict about Sunday brunch. I promise I'll see you tonight, perhaps?" Elise suggested, batting her eyelashes at Samuel.

"That sounds perfect," Samuel smiled warmly.

The two went their separate ways, Azrael followed Elise while Micha'el followed Samuel. Elise quickly returned to her father's church. Luckily it was crowded so no one noticed her. Azrael blended in with the crowd, waiting for the right moment to confront Elise. Eventually, when she was alone Azrael walked up to her.

"Oh you look similar to a man I met earlier," Elise said. Azrael nodded, he purposely disguised himself to look like Samuel. Strong chiseled jaw with a scruffy beard, and long black hair.

"Would his name happen to be Samuel?" Azrael asked, looking into Elise's green eyes with his piercing gray ones.

"Ja, how did you know?" Elise asked, her green eyes widening in shock.

"I'm his brother, Hezekiah," Azrael claimed.

"What? But Samuel told me that he's an only child, and his parents died when he was a teenager," Elize pointed out. Hezekiah shook his head.

"That's merely a falsehood he made up to deceive you," He corrected. "The truth is that our father is very much alive, Samuel has several brothers, and not only that but he's married with several children," Hezekiah informed. The shocked and guilty look on Elise's face pulled at his heartstrings, but she needed to know the truth.

"I... Can't believe it... Why would he lie to me?" Elise asked heartbroken and wanting to cry.

"He and his wife's marriage has been failing," Hezekiah informed. "They argue a lot, I suppose he got tired and left. However, that's still no excuse to deceive you," He added, putting a hand on Elise's shoulder in an attempt to comfort her.
