Dear Mr Holroyd,
The Continuity & Compliance Division acknowledges that your scheduled Completion Date (21 June 2042) has now passed.
In accordance with the provisions of the Dignity Management Act (2041) and the accompanying Continuity Regulations, your Completion is considered effected, whether or not you were present at an authorised Completion Facility.
Under Section 9(1) of the Act, Completion occurs from a governmental standpoint at the point of administrative confirmation, not physical attendance. Accordingly, your Continuity Record has been Finalised and your Citizenship Status updated in the National Register.
You are therefore classified as a Non-Citizen of the United Kingdom, effective from the above date.
The Government is aware that you are currently resident overseas. In recognition of this, and as a gesture of ongoing administrative goodwill, the Home Office has conferred upon you the interim designation of Exiled Former Citizen.
This status entitles you to the following limited privileges:
* Renewal of your existing British Passport through designated overseas missions (subject to background and biometric verification).
* Eligibility for certain consular services as determined by local jurisdiction.
Please note that Exiled Former Citizen status does not entitle you to:
* Enter or transit the territory of the United Kingdom.
* Seek or receive any form of public funding, medical provision, pension benefit, or legal aid from the United Kingdom government.
* Participate in any civic, electoral, or fiduciary process under the Crown.
Any attempt to re-enter the United Kingdom or to access restricted government services may constitute a Continuity Breach under Section 12b of the Dignity Management Act (2041), carrying penalties up to and including permanent erasure of digital identity.

David read the message twice, slowly, like a man rereading his own obituary. The words lay there on the screen, cold and perfectly formatted, indifferent to disbelief.
Exiled Former Citizen.
He said it aloud, the phrase catching oddly in his throat — part laughter, part dread. Evelyn looked up from her book.
“What is it?”
David stared at the horizon, where the sea met the sky in an unbroken, impossible line.
“They’ve done it,” he said. “They’ve made me dead on paper. I’m not British anymore.”
He laughed — a short, astonished sound.
“Apparently I’ve been finalised.”
