The central hololith in the Sanctum of the Ignition Core pulsed with rhythmic, golden geometric waveforms.
The cipher scrolling across the diamond-glass display was written in the High Solar Glyph-Script of the First Age—a dialect extinct for ten thousand years, preserved only in the deepest catacombs of Caelum’s Reach and inside the genetic memory of Seraphina’s awakened Sunblood.
Seraphina stood before the console, her amber eyes wide as she read the translating telemetry.
Her golden crescent mark at the base of her throat flared in harmonious unison with each incoming pulse.
"It’s not just a signal, Kaelen," she whispered, her voice tinged with awe. "It’s an automated rendezvous beacon. Look at the coordinates—they're holding position just past the orbit of Neptune, sheltered inside the gravity well of the dwarf planet Pluto."
Kaelen stepped up behind her, his large hands resting lightly upon her armored shoulders.
The heat of his chest against her back was an anchor in the vast, cosmic expanse. His molten silver eyes narrowed into sharp, calculating slits as he studied the holographic fleet formation appearing on the display.
"The Legion of the Gilded Wing," Kaelen rumbled, his deep baritone thick with centuries of remembered history.
"During the climax of the First Cataclysm, when the Void-Mother’s armies breached the inner solar system, the Sun-Emperor dispatched his elite royal armada into deep space. Their mission was to guard the Kuiper Gate—the final celestial barrier preventing extra-galactic horrors from entering our star system. When the Veil was erected and the ancient gateways collapsed... they were stranded in the outer dark."
"Ten thousand years," Seraphina murmured, feeling the deep ache of the ancient warriors across her ancestral bond.
"They’ve been sleeping in cryo-stasis beneath frozen methane sheets, waiting for the Star-Forge to reignite. Our ignition of Aethelgard just broadcast the wake-up protocol across the solar system."
"And not a moment too soon," Kaelen added darkly, his hand sliding down to trace the side of her neck, his thumb brushing her jawline.
He leaned down, pointing to a second cluster of red telemetry markers appearing at the edge of the Kuiper Belt map.
"The collapse of the Ashen Maw’s orbital blockade here was only the vanguard. The true master of the Maw—Dread-Lord Malakor, the Primordial Siphon—is advancing from the Oort Cloud with the Black Armada."
Seraphina looked at the scale of the incoming threat.
Hundreds of jagged, moon-sized dreadnoughts were carving their way through the outer comet fields, heading straight for the dormant Kuiper Gate.
If Malakor breached that outer gate, he would seize the stranded royal fleet while their systems were still cycling online, turning ten thousand years of ancestral solar warships into corrupted engines of shadow.
"We have to reach them first," Seraphina said, turning in his embrace to face him.
Her hands came up to rest flat against his broad, adamantine-plated chest, feeling the steady, powerful thrum of his heartbeat. "With the Star-Forge online, can the Astra-Vanguard jump that far?"
A slow, wicked smirk curved Kaelen’s lips.
"The Astra-Vanguard has an etheric fold-drive that can ride the station’s solar lance beams," he murmured, his hands sliding around her waist, pulling her flush against his hips.
His silver eyes darkened with that familiar, intoxicating intensity that made her breath catch in her throat.
"We can reach Neptune in less than an hour, my Queen. But before we dive into the outer dark... tell me you are ready for this war."
Seraphina tilted her head up, meeting his predatory gaze with fierce, unyielding pride.
"I was born to lead the dawn, Vance," she whispered, her lips inches from his. "And I have the fiercest shadow in two realms guarding my back. Try and stop me."
Kaelen growled—a low, possessive rumble deep in his throat—and pulled her hard against his mouth.
The kiss was fierce, demanding, and full of raw, sovereign passion, tasting of ozone, ancient wine, and the promise of cosmic conquest. Seraphina wrapped her arms around his neck, matching his fire with her own, letting the heat of their mate-bond banish the freezing chill of the vacuum outside.
When their lips finally parted, they were both breathing heavily, their eyes locked in absolute, shared purpose.
Kaelen released her waist and drew his broadsword in a sharp, crisp salute.
"To the Kuiper Belt, then," the High Sovereign commanded. "Let us claim your empire's fleet!"
