The blue artifact hovered three paces above the melted platform of the shattered sanctum.
It was a fist-sized polyhedron of crystallized chronal sapphire, suspended within three concentric, rotating rings of cold-forged adamantine.
As the rings spun, they emitted a low, harmonic chime that instantly smoothed the erratic temporal ripples in the room, restoring standard linear causality to the surrounding space.
This was the Chronos-Anchor of Morvath.
Seraphina reached out, her fingers brushing the outer ring.
A soothing, cool resonance flowed through her veins, quieting the lingering exhaustion in her muscles.
"It's a temporal stabilizer," she murmured, her amber eyes widening as her mind decoded its etheric frequency.
"Morvath used it to freeze time, but inverted, it can shield our entire armada from temporal shear, paradoxes, and localized chronal dilation."
"Which means no more fragmented fleets," Kaelen Vance rumbled, stepping up directly behind her.
His large, calloused hands slid over her waist, pulling her back against his chest plate.
He rested his chin lightly upon her shoulder, his ragged, warm breath washing over the sensitive curve of her neck, sending a delicious, familiar heat pooling in her stomach.
His molten silver eyes looked down at the relic with cold, strategic appreciation.
"If we mount the Chronos-Anchor beside the Hearth-Core of Ares in the Sol-Invictus, our fold-drives can bypass the outer chronal ice fields entirely. We can cut our transit time to the fourth Harbinger by half."
"Let's get it to engineering, then," Seraphina said, leaning back into the intoxicating solidness of his embrace.
She turned within his arms, looking up into his chiseled face.
A fond, teasing smile played on her lips as she reached up to wipe a streak of brass dust from his cheek.
"Unless the High Sovereign needs a nap first?"
Kaelen’s lips curled into that dangerous, breathtaking smirk that always stole her breath.
His arm tightened possessively around her hips, lifting her slightly until her lips were a hairsbreadth from his.
"I don't need a nap, little sun," he growled huskily, his gaze darkening with raw, sensual hunger.
"I need you. In our quarters. Once this relic is secured."
Seraphina’s breath hitched, her heart thumping wildly against her ribs.
"A royal command, Vance?"
"An absolute one," he whispered, dipping his head to claim her mouth in a slow, deep, devastatingly possessive kiss that tasted of sweet victory and promises of the night ahead.
When they finally broke apart, flushed and breathless, Seraphina summoned an orichalcum containment field around the Chronos-Anchor.
Securing the relic, they returned to the Astra-Vanguard skiff and launched from the melting diamond spire.
As the skiff breached the Frozen Horizon, the Citadel of the Frozen Loom collapsed behind them, dissolving into a glittering cloud of cosmic dust.
The Sol-Invictus received them with thunderous, fleet-wide cheering.
General Aurelius met them on the hangar deck, snapping a crisp salute as the salvage teams wheeled the Chronos-Anchor toward the lower engine decks.
"High Queen, Grand Marshal! The chronal ice fields have completely liquefied!" Aurelius reported with triumphant pride.
"The path along the Abyssal Meridian is clear!"
"Install the Chronos-Anchor immediately, General," Seraphina ordered, her voice carrying the unshakable authority of the Dawn.
"Synchronize its field with the Hearth-Core."
"At once, Your Majesty!"
Two hours later, deep in the flagship’s core, the Chronos-Anchor was locked into its primary housing.
A brilliant pulse of azure and crimson light rippled through the two hundred star-dreadnoughts, locking their timelines into an impenetrable temporal cocoon.
On the bridge’s navigational hololith, the Codex of the Nine updated automatically.
Three runes of the Harbingers burned cold and gray.
Six remained active.
Ahead, the Meridian pointed toward a sector four million light-years deeper into the Rift—a pitch-black void of absolute silence known as the Silent Trench of the Void-Siren.
There, slumbered the fourth horror of the pantheon: Xylara, the Weaver of Whispers.
Standing together at the bridge console, Seraphina and Kaelen shared a look of unyielding, lethal determination.
Three gods had fallen.
Six awaited their dawn.
