Previously:
She flew to Abuja for softness.
Chef cooked.
She moaned (over the lamb, but also… you know).
Then the knock.
Then Yemi.
Then that look.
Now…
Chef stares.
Yemi smirks.
She blinks.
Then Chef goes:
"Yemi? Wait - Yemi D?"
Yemi laughs.
"You still call me that? Ah, small world o. You no tell me say you dey run this kind of private kitchen service."
They dap…. the kind where tension hides under the palm.
She's frozen. In her robe. In their room. Holding a flute of untouched champagne and a mouthful of trouble.
Yemi's eyes flicker back to her.
"No introduction?" he asks.
Chef clears his throat.
"This is… someone special."
Yemi grins.
"I can see that."
Flashback (Her POV):
Yemi was the one that made her doubt God's timing.
The fine, fast-talking, always-fresh Yoruba boy with the Range Rover playlist and a kiss that could convince you to relocate to Ibadan.
He broke her heart like he was testing her emotional brakes.
She never told anyone, not even the group chat; how deep it went.
Until now. Until he's standing there, in her Abuja soft life scene, calling Chef "my guy."
Back to Present:
Yemi sits on the arm of the couch….uninvited, of course sipping water like it's his suite.
Chef is quiet.
Yemi turns to her and says:
"So… Lagos babes dey come Abuja for private tastings now?"
Chef cuts in, voice tight:
"She's not just anyone."
Yemi raises his brows.
"Relax. I'm just saying… you've always had good taste, bro."
The tension is so thick it could be grilled and served with yam.
Then Yemi stands.
"Well, I've got dinner with an investor. But we should all catch up in Lagos. Yeah?"
Chef forces a smile.
"Sure. Lagos."
She doesn't breathe until the door closes.
Chef doesn't speak.
She just says:
"So… childhood buddies, huh?"
Chef nods.
"Since JSS2. He used to copy my math homework. Still owes me for that."
She laughs nervously.
Then he looks her dead in the eye and says:
"I'm not playing second fiddle, sha. If you're still on him, tell me now."
She's quiet.
Not because she's still on Yemi - but because Yemi always has a way of stirring something.
And he's not done.
Lagos, 1 Week Later
She's back home. Chef's been sweet. Steady. Showing up. Cooking Sunday rice.
Then a DM pops up:
Yemi D:
"I forgot how good you look in silk. Lagos lunch?"
She sighs. And texts the group chat:
"Guess who's back, girls."
Zee: "Abeg o. Is it Chef or Chef's childhood mistake?"
Feyikemi: "My body is ready for Season 2."
Didi: "Somebody pack Amala Boda, Yemi, and this Chef into one party and let them fight."
