The sign above the studio read:
Holdings & Rowe - Gallery & Guard
A tribute to everything they built together. A blend of her heart and his shield. What once was a world of power plays and cold promises had turned into one of warm colors and quiet mornings. Their love, forged through fire and fought for fiercely, now had a home.
The town had been skeptical at first. Emery Holdings - the girl who walked out of a million-dollar wedding - reemerging not as a scandal, but as an artist, took people by surprise. And Beckett Rowe, the once-shadowy security chief, now teaching self-defense classes in the backroom of their shared space, seemed like a ghost turned human.
But together, they made sense. More than sense - they made something real.
Sunlight spilled across the gallery floor as Emery moved through the space barefoot, wearing Beckett's shirt and a messy bun. She adjusted a canvas on the wall, stepped back, smiled. The exhibit was ready. Dozens of pieces - chaotic, vulnerable, breathtaking - told a story only she and one other person truly understood.
The front door opened with a soft chime. Beckett stepped in, coffee in one hand, croissant in the other. He leaned against the doorframe, watching her with that familiar smirk.
"You know," he said, "I've spent years looking at danger. But nothing ever hit me like seeing you in paint-stained sweats."
She laughed, walking over to him. "That's your way of saying I look hot, huh?"
He handed her the coffee. "Smoking."
They stood there for a moment, sipping quietly, letting the morning settle around them.
"No regrets?" he asked, brushing a thumb along her cheek.
She leaned into his touch. "Only that I didn't run sooner."
He kissed her forehead. "You didn't run, Emery. You chose."
Later that day, they hosted a small opening night for the exhibit. Friends, neighbors, and even a few former enemies walked through the space, admiring the art and the peace that seemed to hang in the air.
Toward the back of the gallery, one piece stood out - a raw, haunting portrait of two people reaching for each other in the dark, their hands almost touching.
Beckett stood behind her as she gazed at it. "That one still hurts a little."
Emery reached back, grabbing his hand. "It should. That was the moment before everything changed."
He wrapped his arms around her waist, kissing the side of her neck.
"And look where we are now."
She turned in his arms, looked up at him. "Home."
They kissed softly, surrounded by brushstrokes and light.
Not bound by bloodlines. Not trapped by names. Not owned by obligation.
Just…
Bound by love.
The real kind.
The forever kind.
