Blood never really dries.
It just waits to be spilled again.
The black envelope still sat on the table, soaked at the edges. The words on it were burnt into both paper and memory:
> "Return the Queen. Or be crowned in ash."
Blackwell didn't sleep. He hadn't blinked in what felt like hours.
She was in the other room, her wound wrapped tight, breath shallow, a gun beneath her pillow. And he could still hear her voice in his skull:
> "He trained me to kill. But first... he trained me to love him."
The King didn't make mistakes. He made weapons. And Blackwell was sleeping next to one.
---
The estate was silent, but tension moved through the walls like smoke.
Marcus was already in the surveillance room when Blackwell entered.
> "They're not at the gates anymore."
> "What?
> "They moved in closer. Vanished off every camera within three miles."
Blackwell stared at the screen. Static.
> "They're playing with us."
> "No," came a voice behind him. Her voice. "He is studying us."
She stood in the doorway, barefoot, bleeding through her bandage, hair a halo of chaos. Like a ghost from someone else's nightmare.
> "Go back to bed," Blackwell said.
> "That's cute. You think I sleep."

FLASHBACK
The King's Palace - 6 Years Ago
She knelt on broken marble, blood running down her arms, holding a knife that dripped red.
The King stood over her, calm, hands behind his back.
> "What did I teach you?"
> "To never bleed for free.
> "And what else?"
She raised her eyes, glowing with hate.
> "Love makes you soft."
He smiled. Not with warmth - with pride.
> "Good girl. Now kill what's left of you."
Back in the present
Blackwell poured whiskey over a map and lit a match. Flame devoured the route The King used to own.
> "I'm not returning you."
> "Then we burn."
> "Then we burn."
She looked at him. And for a second, only a second, she didn't look like his enemy. She looked like a woman about to ruin him... and want it.
> "He won't come at night," she said. "He'll come at sunrise."
> "How do you know?"
> "Because that's when I was trained to kill. When the light hits your face and makes you believe you're safe.
Blackwell stared.
> "You're not afraid."
She stepped close. Her fingers slid down his jaw like she was memorizing where to stab later.
> "No. I'm waiting."
The King's chamber
He dragged a body by the throat through his corridor. His men watched in silence. Loyalty through terror.
> "She thinks she can belong to someone else?
He snapped the man's neck without breaking stride.
> "Return my Queen," he said to no one. "Or I will bury every city she touches."
---
Blackwell stood at the balcony. The sun began to rise.
She stood beside him, bare feet on cold marble.
> "You should have killed me the moment I told you who I was."
> "I should have," he said. "But you looked too damn beautiful bleeding for it."
The quiet before a storm.
And then -
A shot.
The glass shattered. A bullet missed his eye by half an inch.
She didn't flinch. She smiled.
> "Told you he liked sunrise."
And just like that, the war began.
