Between Sanity and Shadows

Leon always believed madness was something that happened to other people—until it started happening to him. The whispers in the walls, the shifting reflections, the memories slipping through his fingers like sand. He knows he doesn’t have much time left before his mind is no longer his own. Determined to make the most of his last moments of clarity, he sets out to mend broken relationships, seek closure, and hold onto the people he loves—his sister Amara, his best friend Jide, and his ex-girlfriend Ada. But how do you say goodbye when you’re still here? How do you prepare for a descent you can’t escape? Told through multiple perspectives, *Between Sanity and Shadows* is a haunting, deeply emotional tale of love, loss, and the terrifying fragility of the mind. As Leon drifts further into the abyss, those around him are left to wonder—will anything of him remain when the darkness finally takes over? A gripping psychological drama that lingers long after the last page.

Chapter 8

The Last Sane Day (Amara's POV)Leon wakes up different. He looks at me like he's memorizing my face.

"Come braid my hair," he says.

I haven't done it since we were kids. I don't know why he's asking now, but I do it. My fingers move through his hair, slow and deliberate. He exhales, a sound that carries both relief and resignation.

For a moment, it feels like we're children again. Before the world got complicated. Before the walls whispered his name.

I don't know that this is the last time I'll see my brother as he is. I don't know that tomorrow, he'll be someone else.
