Chapter 5: The Final Whistle

The night was creepily silent as the train sped through the darkness, its rhythmic clatter merging with the faint murmurs of passengers lost in sleep. Aami stood near the door, her hands gripping the cold metal rail as she gazed into the abyss outside. The time had come.

Aarush, slightly unsteady from the drinks, walked toward her, his movements slower, his sharp eyes slightly dulled. "What are you doing here all alone?" he asked, his voice thick with amusement and something else - trust. Trust that she had carefully cultivated.

She turned, her face unreadable. "I wanted to feel the breeze one last time before the journey ends."

He stepped closer, their bodies inches apart. "One last time? That sounds too dramatic for someone I'm planning to see again," he said, a teasing smile on his lips.

Aami's heart pounded, but she forced a soft chuckle. "You think so?"

He reached out, brushing a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "I know so."

She met Aarush's gaze and whispered, "You always wanted to know what my biggest regret was, didn't you?"

He tilted his head. "Yeah?"

Her lips curled into the faintest smile. "Not being able to save my father? from you."

Confusion flickered in his eyes, but before he could react, she stepped back, watching the realization dawn upon him as the poison in his drink began to take effect.

Aarush's breath hitched. His fingers twitched as a slow, numbing sensation spread through his limbs. He tried to steady himself, but the world around him blurred. "Aami? what did you do?"

She watched, emotionless, as he stumbled back, his body weakening with each second. "Just a little something I learned in medicine," she murmured. "Nothing painful? just enough to make you lose control."

Aarush clutched the side railing, his chest tightening, vision darkening. His body fought against the poison, his instincts screaming for survival. He tried to take a step, but his legs refused to cooperate. Panic flickered in his eyes.

He turned toward her, betrayal evident in his gaze. "You? planned this?"

She didn't answer. There was no need.

Aarush's stomach twisted violently, and he turned toward the open door, retching. His grip on the metal bar loosened. The train jolted slightly, and in that moment, he lost his balance. His body lurched forward, his weight shifting dangerously toward the edge.

For a second, everything slowed.

White light from inside the train bathed him in an ethereal glow, while outside, the darkness stretched infinitely, swallowing everything in its path. The contrast was stark - good and evil, life and death, vengeance and mercy.

Then, he fell.

The wind roared past him as the darkness consumed him whole.

Aami stood frozen, staring into the void where he had disappeared. No scream, no struggle - just silence.

Slowly, she turned back, her hands steady as she reached into her bag, pulling out a small bottle of sanitizer. Methodically, she wiped down every surface she had touched, erasing any trace of her presence. She adjusted her hair, smoothed out her dress, and took a deep breath.

Her inner voice whispered. It's over.

But was it?

She walked back to her berth, slipping under the blanket as if nothing had happened. The train continued its journey, indifferent to the life it had just claimed.

As she lay there, staring at the ceiling, a thought crept into her mind. Did I do the right thing? Had she avenged her father, or had she become something worse?

She turned on her phone, hesitating for a moment before opening her notes app.

Then, she typed:

"Was I justified in what I did? Was this justice? or murder?"

She stared at the words, her fingers hovering over the screen. And then, almost as if speaking to her readers around the world, she added:

"Tell me your thoughts. Because my story doesn't end here. It will continue? if you want it to."

She closed her eyes as the train rumbled forward, carrying her into an uncertain future.
