My ex and I arrived in Kenya and from the moment we arrived, I wouldn't stop texting my boyfriend. Our relationship wasn't just romantic, he was my bestfriend too. Because of the time differences, I'd wake up before him and always text first, I was his alarm clock. My ex started noticing the patterns and how I still constantly check in with my boyfriend and the arguments started again, fights erupted too. He left and went back to America after a few days because he had to go to work, I was sort of happy because I could be on my own and breathe again.
Two weeks down the line, I called my boyfriend but he didn't pick up which was unusual. I called severally and he still didn't pick. He did pick later and explained he was sleeping. Hell broke loose after I called him the next day. He picked up the phone said "we are no longer together and these calls are unnecessary".
Now even though we had agreed break up, I wasn't ready for the reality of that. I spiraled and slipped into a horrible depression and I somehow manipulated my ex to get me a ticket back to Accra so I could fix the issue. I arrived in Accra and met up with my boyfriend after, we even made out and had sex but when he got home, he told me he was done and he thought seeing me would change his mind but it didn't.
Its been 8 months after the break up and several ways of trying to win him back or even try to stay friends haven't worked. I have thought about him everyday for 8 months, I have cried everyday for 8 months, I have been depressed everyday for 8 months.
The break up did a number on me. After being suicidal twice, I decided for fix a lot of things about me. I went back to my hometown to fix a lot of issues with my mom, my grand mother and other members of the family, as I didn't have a good relationship with them. I went back to where it all started.
My ex and I struggled to make it work but it didn't . He watched me get depressed over another man, he watched me get heartbroken over another man. He tried his best to make me happy still, he did all he could but nothing worked. I didn't love him anymore and all that mattered was my boyfriend who had walked away.
I am now back in Accra, no boyfriend, no ex, no American visa, no money, no job. My life did change alright, but not in the way I expected because I am now back to were it all started, only just by myself.
