THREE GIANTS

CHAPTER ONE- EDGAR, LURCH AND GOLIATH

It all began on an island. Just off the coast of England. Named Giants land. Their three giants lived . going by the names of Edgar, lurch and Goliath. They were, by far huge in their stature. Taller then the trees, that grew wildly in the forest. Giants Land was a peaceful dwelling for them and nothing untowardly really happened there. Until the breach, from the trolls occurred. Who lived on the other side of Giants land.

They were, menacing and there were hundreds of them. Mean looking. Grimacing and vulgar. To say the least. They had very few attributes and scars on their faces. They wanted to harm the giants a great deal, but they didn't stand a chance. Truly they paled in comparison, with regards to their height. Miniatures compared to that of the three giants. Their leader was called 'holt'. And he had a venomous streak to him. He detested the three giants greatly. To the point , that he once vowed to the others, that he would, seek revenge for the killing of Saba. The other troll. Half brother to Holt.

The giants were apparently embroiled in a battle at the stone of nobleness, where they fought with almost hundreds of trolls and won. Killing Saba , with a grudge so strong, that Holt couldn't let go of his vengeance, as he sat on a slab at their troll fortress. A huge cave, that was surrounded by thorny bushes outside. And inside it was staunch with cobwebs and mould. A putrid dwelling . as Holt said to the other trolls, that were gathered . bearing in mind they could all speak a language all of their own . As he said "let us annihilate these giants. Once and for all. For they have brought dishonour to us. We are collectively stronger now, with a bigger army. Do you all agree? Ill never forgive them for the killing of my brother and he was family to all of us. Revenge is sweet. Let us devise a plan , that swiftly works. Shall we?"

The crowd of trolls jeered elated and made erratic hooting noises, that pierced the air. It was safe to say, that Giants land, would feel a tremor once again, that would shatter the peace installed on that island , for years it had remained peaceful and serene, where wild roses grew and daffodils spread on the hill tops, but they could perhaps perish also, if a battle should erupt, no doubt!

Meanwhile there was a plane crash on Giants land, which unfortunately was serious. Some of the passengers on board perished . all but two children remained. Their names were, Susie and steven, they were twins and their parents, didn't stand a chance as initially their helicopter nose dived, as the engine failed , as it hurtled and hit the hard surface below. Their parents were no more and the two children at the tender age of twelve years of age, were desolate and left all alone. Concussed , bruised and with deep cuts to their skin. But in the distance they had, their saviours. The formidable giants as they miraculously came across the crashed helicopter on one of their jaunts.

As Edgar stopped the others in their tracks, as he towered over the wreckage and said "lurch , Goliath look over here , what have we found. I don't recognise this machine or what is it exactly?"

the others stood mystified on their findings . they didn't have an inkling of what was before them, as Goliath then said "don't know what is it ? do you know lurch. I mean it could be anything. It's just I've never seen anything like this upon our land before. I'm curious you know ?"

Edgar then replied inquisitively " well let's have a look inside. And see what we can find shall we?"

They all entered the smashed helicopter. Poking their heads through the open doorway. As firstly Goliath noticed the four bodies lying there. As he shouted loudly "anyone can you hear me?"

Silence fell until the twins simultaneously , were aroused by his voice, which brought them almost back to life, as Susan mumbled "who's that, Steve are you awake. Who is calling us?"

Steve replied drowsily " I don't know really. Aww I'm not feeling good, what happened to us?"

Susan lifted herself awkwardly and then sat crouched , within that helicopter, as she said "what's happened to mum and dad, I can see they are not moving at all . ahh mum and dad wake up, wake up!"

Steve began to cry loudly . rocking to and frow as he managed to sit upright, as he said "mum and dad are not speaking. Susan does that mean, they're umm ?"

Susan began to cry uncontrollably also stumbling to find the words to communicate to Steve as she says" I don't know what's happened to them ?"

Goliath then peers even more closely as he says "children don't fret . don't be scared . we're here to help you out. I think you're parents are dead. I'm sorry to have to tell you this. Quick take hold of my hand". As Goliath extends his arm . all the way towards them. Susan and Steve become anxious and hesitant to grasp it. They don't have a choice in the matter it seems. As Edgar then tells Goliath to haul them back soft handed and then releases them from that wreckage. The children remain petrified as Susan glances wide eyed as she musters and says "so you are all huge. What are your names ?"

Goliath mouths "I'm Goliath . that's lurch and Edgar. Pleased to meet you both. We're sorry for your loss. You know we truly are". Susan softly replies "I know you all are I can see that now, but I haven't got the strength to walk, nor has can you carry us Goliath?"

Goliath replies "of course I will let's take you to our cave shall we. Their you both can rest. Have a little amount of water, for you must be thirsty. You both have been through an ordeal . the worst of it's kind no doubt. You both firmly need to rest and gain your strength. And at our cave you'll get all that I promise".

With that, they all set off running like the wind, with the twins in the palm of goliath's hand. As the sky was, a brazen blue and the winds whirred a coldness like no other. The children no doubt, we're cold and destitute for now. It seemed like hours before they reached anywhere but finally the three giants along with the children arrived at their destination. 'mount Heely'.

Then Goliath gently lowered the two individuals to the ground. As they lead Susan and Steve in to the widest cave, through it's mouth and inside it glistened almost. Spotless , with roses growing untouched as the rock was sparkly alike diamonds. Summed up a very clean cave indeed. As Susan scanned the cave. As did Steve, with intrigue. They felt reassured , that everything was above board and was going to be alright.

As Lurch spoke with a hoarse , but calming tone as he said "have you both been taken aback by our wondrous cave. Yes it once was our parent's home. We are three brothers by the way. We have lived here since birth and we like it here. No doubt you will like it here too. Don't ever be afraid. We are gentle giants to add. You can trust us. And now we are your soul guardians. If you both have us to be, as it stands".

Steve replied quietly like a mouse in a hushed voice "yes I would love for you to be our protectors. Please we feel so lonely, without our parents you know. Ahh the cuts to my face and hands hurt and I can't straighten both my legs. Look Susan they're bruised "

Susan looked at Steve's legs in haste as she said "oh yes they are bruised quite a bit. Rest them Steve. I believe the Giants will do the rest"

Edgar replied "of course we're here to serve you. We are your only friends out here, but you must promise not to stray, from this cave. Once you both get better, that is".

Steve and Susan nodded in agreement, that they understood their gestures told a different reaction, no doubt.

Meanwhile on the other side of the island . the troll leader and his despicable lot, were venturing on their journey and suddenly stumbled on the wreckage. As curious as they became as they caught sight of the charred helicopter, holt shouted loudly "trolls let's scour this area and more to the point that helicopter needs to be searched to see what remains, we can find".

They all hurried and stomped their feet in succession towards that wreckage, as they drew nearer and nearer it seemed clear to holt, that it was abandoned as they tentatively peered inside. Holt could see outline of two bodies. Human bodies to be exact. As holt viewed the carnage. The dead bodies to be specific he then exclaimed "my, my what happened here". He then advanced further and then entered the helicopter through the hatch, as he noticed a small girls bag and a cap and photo's which lay strewn on the metal floor.

Holt thought cleverly to himself " I wonder if there were survivors. Must have been other humans and if so where would they be now".

As he then climbed out of this wreckage. And then snarled as he then shouted to the others "there's two bodies in here , we must find I believe what could be two other souls. Let not they escape trolls . they must be found and quickly".

The many trolls stomped their feet in unison and croaking voices, could be heard, simultaneously. Meanwhile Susan and Steve, were acquainting themselves, with the Giants and settling in the cave no doubt. But Susan couldn't help wondering what became of their helicopter and who would probably bury her parents, but the thought was nagging her.

It was more then she could, bear. As tearful as she was . As goliath noticed her eyes well up, as he consoled her by presenting her with a bunch of flowers, that cheered her up a little, he hoped. Softened her pain and as for steven. Her twin. He felt the same emotions. Felt down in the ditch. Heartbroken and bereft of happy feelings on this occasion.

The giants, would now leave Susan and Steven to go and chop wood for the fire stack and this was a chore, they exercised almost daily. Foraging for the largest berries and from the largest pine trees and fruit bearing trees, that grew on their Island, no doubt. But the three giants warned them "not to leave the cave at any cost, because there could, be danger in the form of large beasts and most of all, they were lots of heinous trolls.

That lurked not too far away. Who were, robust and infuriating. As they left the cave to venture out. Susan and steven were more settled after almost a month on the island. With the giants by their side, but Susan's curiosity got the better of her. And she managed to convince steven to follow her out on a trail , that could be disastrous no doubt. As Susan said "steven we need to see for ourselves. What's out there. I can imagine pretty flowers and streams flowing and little deer roaming around. We should go Steve right now".

Steven shrugged his shoulders, as he had second thoughts, but at the same time had finally given in to his sister's persistence and persuasion and most of all her nagging pushy side. As they both left the cave, cautiously . even the littlest of creatures dazzled them. As even it was far larger then the both of them. The beetles glazed shell glistened as it scurried past.

And then Susan said alarmingly "look at it ten times that beetle it's normal size. Can we catch it?"

Steven replied "no, no Susan it's probably dangerous. Look at it's horns. It's a horned beetle. Let's leave it alone".

As they both walked further upon this hostile land. Suddenly Susan lost her grip. Her foot slinked on the ground beneath her. It disappeared it almost sunk as Susan screamed "Steven I'm falling . help me, I'm falling".

Steven looked on in horror, as he tried in vain , but failed dismally. The ground sunk fast, as Susan fell deep inside this ditch. Steven frantically stood atop this ditch. Screaming every inch, but it seemed Susan had fallen too deep, within the depths of this pit.

"Only the giants could, save her", steven thought. "but where are they", he murmured . the giants, were returning with chopped wood, nestled within their strong arms and they would return enroute the similar way. As lurch noticed steven cowering over the sunken patch. As goliath shouted hoarsely "steven . who's in there , that ditch I mean. It holds Susan does it ?" steven awkwardly gestured by shrugging his shoulders.

And then shouted back "yes it's got Susan . she's down there, please help?"

Goliath almost raced over. Followed by the others, as he then ranted annoyed " I told you both not to go outside and you disobeyed me, but why ? it was for your own safety". Then he peered downwards. Scanning for Susan to surface as he shouted "don't worry Susan . we're here . we'll get you out, I promise".

Mnjjjjj4r3emk,As goliath then threw a rope, that he carried with him sometimes to fell the trees, he threw that in to the ditch, for Susan to grab hold of. Luckily and miraculously Susan was still alive. She had not fallen too deep, as first thought. As Susan's muffled voice echoed back. As her words floated , almost . Susan shrieked "I'm okay. Get me out of here goliath . please my clothes have been torn a little. My knees have, been scuffed, but I'm okay.

Susan was above her years in maturity . a sensible individual at all times, but on this occasion. It was the latter in some respects. Goliath reached down, with his elongated arms and grasped Susan , with a gentleness and hoisted her up through the ditch. Upwards she went. Finally she was lowered on to the surface and then managed to climb on her feet. Goliath then scolded her as he said "Susan I warned you . in fact we have all warned you both of the dangers present beyond our cave walls. Upon this land. You did not heed it. You don't listen do you? Let that be a lesson. Follow our instructions next time we mind be so lucky. Susan sulked a little. She had a more challenging day, and the mistake was made by her, she felt.

As they reached to the cave, by walking many a mile and felt safe even after the meter but felt at ease with their settings. The three giants then became increasingly watchful over them . a vested interest , in their safety , that could not be compromised , as it stood !

CHAPTER TWO - THE WOLVES

On one particular day . the three giants, were talking amongst themselves. Regarding their desire to go wood chopping and they unanimously decided , they would take the twins on their jaunts. As they asked the twins, that was lurch who initiated the conversation as he said "Susan, Steven, would you like to accompany us to chop wood. I mean you can watch us. See how we fell the trees. It's a great exercise. We have in place. Will you both come with us?"

Susan and Steven beamed and both replied "yes, we will friends".

So they all set off towards, that wooded area, as they crossed large thickets and fields of wild roses. The fragrance from them wafted in to the air. The giant bees, that were buzzing busily above them. Amongst the tulip patch also . as they trampled past and then they were finally here. Goliath had his wooden axe. Along with the others in tow. As they started chopping profusely, as Susan and Steven stood out of harms way. Side lined for their own safety as they looked on in awe of the spectacle.

Susan thought "how easily the trees fell. `like butter when sliced `. the giants made it look so simple and effortless as they stacked the logs in a pile . ready to carry in their strong arms, no doubt!

This was their exercise in a sense . as goliath made panting noises, who often became worn out, as he said "children this is how we do this. Are you both impressed?"

The twins replied looking astonished as they said simultaneously "we couldn't do that. We have to be big and strong like you giants then". They both started to chuckle. Their smile etched from ear to ear, as they looked on. Goliath then said "so this will be for the log fire, but I do notice the forest is clearing, which worries me. We can't be the only loggers around here?"

Edgar and lurch simultaneously sighed and said "well that must be true. Who else is out here apart from us, do you think?"

Goliath sheepishly replied "dun no it could be anyone or anything. I can only imagine".

Curious as they all were. They let the thought go and carried on with their journey home. As they ventured towards their home, their cave. They were, almost marching past the long thickets and then suddenly , they were ambushed. Five great big wolves stood leering and hungry for a bite of their flesh. And the children were, it seemed high on the agenda and on the top of their food list. As their fangs sharp and precise, were gleaming. As they eagle eyed their prey, but when they realised the giants , were in the background. They had second thoughts, but even still prepared their fight. Even though they were five and comparatively so were the other party, but the wolves felt they had the upper hand.

As they began to coil their necks and flash their fangs a great deal more to scare the children. Even after this obstruction. The wolves ran as fast as they could, possibly and leapt several feet in to the air. As they almost glided over the children and met the wrath of the three giants. One by one they were battered and pounded by their stone clubs, which hit the wolves directly on their tufty bodies and faces and their clubs made contact several times!

The wolves were, outsmarted and then beaten to a pulp. And soon after retreated . the victory was with the giants. Of course being full of might and the three giants then exclaimed "those pesky vulgar wolves. What were they thinking. They're no match for us. I mean puny things, at that. "

Susan and steven, were firmly placed within these gentle giants and always, would be. No doubt!

As they all made their way back home. The lingering thoughts occurred. As goliath thought "this land of giants land, had become volatile, hostile and a changing setting. The giants whistled a tune, that almost fluted . as the twins listened on and they had their own jolly song to sing as it seemed. All the way back to the cave.

Meanwhile the trolls sniffed out a trail, that belonged to Susan and steven and not forgetting those formidable giants. They were, hot on their heels. As it were. As the trolls possibly were gaining ground. As they ran like wildfire, but soon enough it went cold. They were on a wild goose chase. Going nowhere, as they collectively decided to retreat and return to their fortress.

Meanwhile the giants and the two twins, were sleeping in those caves. Nightfall had it darkened desire no doubt. To overlap the day. The giants always slept, with one eye opened. Guarding the cave entrance, from would be intruders. It was incumbent they did so, for the children's protection. As bats flittered in and out of those caves. Sometimes swooping so low as to awake the children, with their twittering , but the giants were never rattled in the least, they were prone to this spectre for many years now.

Susan and steven almost slept like a log. Deep inhalation . as they dreamed simultaneously of their parents faces. Like primroses and their harrowing fragmented final moments. Partially blurred . as they both woke up in cold sweats. As they screamed loudly "aah no oh my God". They shrieked . the giants awoke to their alarming distress, as they darted over to them. As goliath inquisitively asked "are you both okay. You seem to be having a nightmare of some sort. Please share this with us".

As Susan and Steve tried in vain to recollect their dream . they couldn't . it was so vague and it had left them both in tears. As Susan tearfully replied "goliath I can't understand why mum and dad are gone. Will I ever see them both again, ever?"

Goliath sympathetically replied "maybe one day in heaven. Maybe never young ones. For it is their fate no doubt. Fate predicts our future and most certainly sealed their fate. Just think good thoughts, they must be looking down on you both, from that heavenly abode, I imagine".

Susan felt a relief by goliath's warmest soothing words and so did steven feel the compassion in his words. The three giants toiled the next day. They went out in to the great wide space. Gathering giant gooseberries. And with their crossbow hunting and then shooting giant deer. After all their stomachs collectively needed feeding. At any given day. At every meal. They would consume great chunks of meat and fruit.

They all had a very large appetite indeed. As lurch picked the wild berries, from the wild bushes, as he then said "we shouldn't stay out too long, for the twins are all alone. Goliath then replied "well that's true. They mustn't be left alone this way. Who knows there could be a repeat of them wandering in to the woods once again and that would be fatal. Let's rush back brothers and let's do it soon. "

As goliath mounted the deer upon his shoulders. It was dead and strewn like. Lifeless as they proceeded their approach towards home. their cave, their safe haven !

Eventually they all returned to their cave . that was the three giants, of course.They noticed the mouth of the cave, had been disturbed. The soil had deep footprints or more comprehendible paw prints. Like hooves had been imprinted. As they looked more intently. They noticed pawprints , which were huge diameter. Goliath then said "I fear someone or something has been here. Look lurch and you Edgar take stock. "

Goliath and lurch peered over the footprints and simultaneously said "yes we fear there has been a breach of the children's safety".

They all scurried inside yelling "Susan, Steven where are you both? Are you hiding. Come out . come out. Wherever you are". But to no avail. All that came floating back was their own echoes, from that dense and secluded cave.

They all sat there by the stone carved seats. In utter disbelief. Disarray shaped the moment. Their hearts became heavy and not to mention , they were extremely withered and tired beyond all recognition. Contemplating the worst. Not knowing where the children had gone. And rightfully so, by their own omission. They had neglected the twins in a sense by leaving them alone. Although they had felt the cave was safe. Their fortress had, been breached. The spiders web had been dismantled , from the opening of the cave.

They all felt frustrated and weary and in a split moment, they fell in to a deep slumber, no doubt.

Meanwhile the children had, actually been captured by the centurion king, Sulphur who had an underlying grudge against the three giants, from many moons ago. At the battle of 'blitz'. The giants had, in fact slaughtered some of the centurion's kind. And he felt it was to be reimbursed by the taking of the twins. 'an eye for an eye', as he himself once put it. Sulphur was a despicable centurion . who ruled the North side of giants land.

Unbeknown to the giants, he now had the upper hand as he said to his fellow companions "let us rejoice today of the capturing of these two strange and menacing children. But what shall we do with them? Stave them of freedom. Or far worse banish them in to the wilderness, where the wolves will get them, no doubt!"

The crown of centurions jeered . half man and half beast. And they all stood so tall. Sometimes with a nay and sometimes precise words flowing between themselves. As sulphur further said "zarkos bring me the mortals. Let me see them with my own eyes. I wish to ask them something".

"yes your excellence", Zarkos replied. As he fetched Susan and steven from their enclosure tied and unwillingly lead towards Sulphur . there Sulphur asked the twins outright" will the giants help you now and what of your human parents? Where are they? You both just couldn't have fell in to the giants lap, haphazardly could you ? did someone bring you to their lair ? and whom may I ask?"

Susan was adamantly tight lipped and so was steven . as they both remained petrified and completely shtum . feeling shivery and cold and enormously frightened of the consequences and this entity before them. Finally Susan broke her silence, as she said "the giants and they'll come for us and will hunt you down".

Becoming braver , but still agitated and taking long breaths . as Sulphur replied angrily "will they. We'll see about that. Zarkos take them to the cage, I've heard enough ".

The twins were , fore marched towards a binding twigged enclosure. As they nervously went inside . it was no more then six feet high and equally six feet wide. Susan and steven felt claustrophobic and even felt sick to the stomach , as it so happens. As Sulphur decided on the punishment he would, inflict upon them both. The others jostled with excitement. Knowing their leader had other plans, which he hadn't discussed it with them all. And most probably would at a later interval.

Meanwhile the three formidable giants awoke from their forced sleep and panting remembered everything as they discussed amongst themselves a valid plan to save the twins as Edgar said "brothers I fear that, something worse will happen if we don't get to the children in good time, but to know their whereabouts is another thing. A very tall order".

Goliath replied sharpish "I know , but maybe our golden kestrel friend ' nu nu ', can help us . shed some light ", and then lurch said anguished "summon him by shouting loud, altogether now brothers "

As they nearly brought the cave down by screaming 'nu nu nu nu '. Come now . where are you? Here birdy". Within no time nu nu came swooping towards them, with wings spanned and then he perched by the edge of the cave on a jagged edge of rock as he said "what's the problem this time goliath and how may I assist you all ?"

Goliath then frantically replied "well we need to find the children. They're gone and we are at our wits end. Please be quick and agile. We need you back with their sighting forthwith. "

Nu nu flapped his wings in response and replied eagerly "yes you awesome giants. I will rest assure . haven't I found things for you before , for you ?"

The giants sat puzzled as Nu Nu flew in to the open sky . aerial dives and sped next to no other at a speed as he flapped his wings profusely. And went on his course of journey.

Many hours expired and finally Nu nu with his acute beady eyes , had suddenly spotted the enclosure in the north of giants land. And viewed the procession of centurions and most of all their king and leader seated on his concrete throne. Nu nu thought "my my, so you think you are so clever. We'll see about that. Wait until the giants catch up with you. You just wait and see".

As he swooped a fraction lower still in mid air. Nu nu confirmed his sighting , with his acute visionary senses. After all he was, the best bird in flight, no doubt !

Meanwhile the giants awaited Nu nu's return as he formidably swooped low then in to the mouth of the cave he went as he landed . the giants were envisaging glad tidings. As nu nu blurted out "I've seen them goliath . their in the north of giants land . go and same them, fast. Their in trouble . in a terrible state. Caged like animals, please waste no time".

The three giants became riled and relieved by Nu nu's news . "at least he had a sighting". Goliath thought. This was the lead they, were after. And then they were full of rage towards sulphur as they unanimously vowed by saying "sulphur you've gone too far this time. We will get you and free our beloved children. Just you wait and see". As they arose and ran swiftly . covering much ground. Their feet pounding the earth .

Gaining momentum by every passing moment. Their eagerness to save these children was etched upon their faces. And a hunger to reach that, vicinity and to rescue Susan and Steven at all costs.

After hours of travelling on foot . resting for a little. The giants finally neared the North side of giants land. As they ventured in to centurion territory. They suddenly fell deep in to a sunken pit. As they gasped and gulped and then shrieked "oh no ". As the giants fell deeper and hit the bottom awkwardly with a thud.

Sulphur beamed "oh that must be them. So happy they could, join us. Silly fools, did they think it would be that, easy to save them. Rescue these pesky children. I think not". They were stopped in their tracks. Duped to a disadvantage it seemed . after all sulphur was clever and calculating . far from being stupid. Or giving any leeway. He had the upper hand. He did not only capture the children , but now had the giants, also. Within his grasp. He could do as he pleased . now he felt, inwardly "what an auspicious day, until the talking trees, lent a hand . the tallest of them. Grainy was in fact a friend of goliath's . growing by that, same pit, that had almost consumed them, as grainy outstretched it's sturdy branch. And then began to retrieve them one by one, eventually pulling them all out of the pit .

Sulphur stood awestruck . in sheer disbelief of the spectacle , before him . as he still ordered his centurions to proceed and attack the giants, at will. As the battle erupted . the giants then bashed the centurions to a pulp as a the centurions ran amok. Then suddenly attacking the giants, with steel swords. But they couldn't harm the giants as they cowered and retreated . beaten by the sheer power of the giants and that in itself was, more than enough. The giants were invincible it seemed. As the giants responded with precision and wielding their clubs.

The dust flew in to the air until it settled once the centurions had, scarpered including sulphur, of course ! the three giants stood elated as they searched for the twins. As they finally came across the enclosure. As they then broke the lock off the sturdy doors. And released the twins, forthwith.

The two of them felt relieved as they nestled themselves in to Edgar's arms. The giants carried the children all the way to the cave dwelling in haste. Knowing fully well , that this brief encounter, with the heinous centurions, could be repeated, but they had an easy task to stave them away, for now. No doubt there could, be further afflictions. After all terror knew no boundaries in giants land, as it stood .

A few days had passed and the giants were, discussing the fight sat around an open log fire. And then they went on about the possibility of introducing the children to the wise one named 'malphor'.

As goliath said to the others " I think it would be good for the children to visit Malphor. To gain some knowledge and get a better understanding of giants land. He is the wise one, after all ". As lurch and Edgar shook their heads in agreement. It had then been decided , that he would visit malphor . who resided in the south of the land . he was a grey bearded man. With an extremely large frame and legends foretold , that his staff and his looking glass. A sphere shape, could tell you your future and all kinds of imagery could be seen through it's powers.

CHAPTER THREE- MALPHOR

Malphor lived alone. Solely in a cave like themselves, that was both extremely large and spacious and he was above all. A kind man. It is believed he was many hundreds of years old. Who could contain his years, through magic, but at the same time. Resembled an old man , outwardly .

The three giants that same morning told the twins of their expedition. "to hopefully visit Malphor, with them both by their side. "

Susan and steven were overjoyed with this great news and curious at the same time. Budding children who then simultaneously thought " I wonder what Malphor looks like? Does he have a cloak? Or a tatty beard? Or is he able to walk for long ? what will he think of us?".

The giants seemed pleasantly surprised by their reactions to meet malphor , the wise one. They imagined he might be cautious or fearful of their meeting, but alternatively they said simultaneously "yes goliath we want to meet um what did you say his name was again ? it is an unusual name, don't you think?"

Lurch responded by replying "yes it is. Just as ours are and your names are so sweet. By the way, but we will go immediately and the children we ask of you to be yourselves, for malphor enjoys our company and perhaps now yours too, in the event".

Susan grabbed her satchel and so did steven as they were, held in the palm of goliaths hand. As the giants ran as fast as the winds could almost, carry them. The sky turned a molten grey colour . more charcoal textured. The threat of thunder and rain were always present to replenish those lands, no doubt.

But the giants and the twins were, on a mission to visit malphor retrospectively . to gain a further understanding and knowledge of life upon giants land and it seemed it was another adventure of a different kind. The children hoped , they would be pleased and the giants felt ecstatic. To introduce them to the wise one.

As they covered much ground . heading towards the south of the border. Malphor was without knowledge , that the giants, were on their course, towards him. Let alone any knowledge of the accompanying children. It was almost ambiguous for now !

As the giants finally arrived at Malphor's residence . his cave bronze in colour, which stood out to them. As the giants had in fact frequented this cave many times before. As they all proceeded towards the mouth of the cave. The eagle perched outside became alarmed. It's name was 'egor'.

As it then alerted malphor . it was a meticulous bird. It always announced the arrival of visitors through it's cawing sound. And malphor came hurryingly outside. As he clasped eyes on the giants and said "well, well if it isn't goliath , lurch and Edgar . how are you all? It's been a while. And who do we have here. Children. Human children, but you know it is not safe for them. To be upon our land. How did this come about?"

Goliath replied "it's a long tale, but if we go inside . we can tell you all that, you need to know, friend".

Malphor beamed and then said "so what are we all waiting for . come on inside . you are my guests. And so are these children. It's a honour you know. Meeting humans and a huge surprise, but then you all are full of surprises".

As they all chuckled including the children. Who seemed to take a liking towards malphor. No doubt , they found him strange, but wonderful at the same time . as they all ventured inside the cave. Malphor lead the way. As Susan thought "how strange there isn't much here, but some stone seats. A few odd looking mirrors and a fire burner, but then you don't find much in a cave I suppose "

On the contrary it was more then ample for Malphor . nice and comforting. As they all were, seated . malphor enquired by speaking in a hoarse voice "so how are you all. Have you eaten anything. I'm sure the children have an appetite. So there is wild berries in that bowl on that stone table. And I've previously made some deer meat stew. Goliath please bring the children to the table. I believe you said their names were, Susan and Steven".

Goliath thought "well I never told Malphor their names and he knew there and then". Of course goliath's intuition told him that, malphor was in fact the wise one. He knew almost everything . his omen, would foretell him on events and people . even before they, happened or individuals appeared in his presence . as the children were , lead to the table and they were finally seated , Susan thought "these chairs are so pokey and rough and so uncomfortable ", but didn't relay her thoughts for fear of upsetting the wise one.

As Susan and steven tucked in to the deer stew . as every mouthful was actually devoured . the giants decided to join them and devoured every mouthful, also. They spent many moments enjoying the stew and then retired . as they reminisced with Malphor of old times together. Malphor had a burning desire to show the children the looking glass, as he brought it to their attention by presenting as he said "look in to this glass can you see images? Do you see anything?"

Susan could see trolls and despicable ones at that. Ghastly and horrible, as she shrieked "yes I can see these ugly creatures " malphor ", then further said "well these trolls are everywhere on this land, but mainly in the north, where they are concentrated a great deal. We must avoid a clash with them. As they are growing great in numbers". Malphor then further added "and I believe your friends , the giants had previous encounters with them and they will then tell you more , I imagine".

With that Malphor struck his staff , hard to the ground and then said "watch this wonder", as the staff hit the ground . it's magic conjured up three kestrels, which then perched on the stone ledge , as Susan and steven looked on in amazement. Malphor then said "their names are star, glider and aerial and they are my fond friends. I have summoned them to watch over you. To guide you all to higher grounds. They sense danger , when it presents itself. A little gift from me to you".

Susan smiled a great deal, as she said "oh wow so they are wild. Do they speak. " as malphor commanded the birds , which were large in size to speak up".

Star then cawed and said "I am a talking bird and we too live on the north like you and your giants. We can look out for danger. Aerial is the best at this, but me and glider are not far off the mark. Pleased to meet you, human children, at long last . malphor is our master and we do as he says".

The birds were under direct instruction from Malphor to undertake their duties and that they would, under any circumstance! As malphor said furthermore "well children if you would, like to pat these wild birds, although to you both they will stay loyal and ever so tame. Go on pat them. Be at ease they will not peck you".

Susan stepped forward and in tune so did steven. As the two fraternised with the birds. Malphor cackled with a great belching laughter as he then turned to the three formidable giants and said, whilst stroking his stringy grey beard "well giants do you wish to pat these birds, also. Or can I do anything out of hospitability . so that, you all have a pleasant stay, and may it be very enjoyable. Would you like some brew, or a lighter refreshment?"

Goliath spoke immediately as he said "yes, in fact I'll have some of that wild berry punch, with that strong mint. It's so appetizing as I remember. Hey brother have some . you don't know what your missing".

Lurch and Edgar looked towards each other and muttered under their breath "but we do . we have to think , but it's disgusting".

Malphor then said "well if , that will be all. I bid you all a farewell". As he ushered them including the children towards the opening of the cave, after some time later. As the giants proceeded towards the exit of that cave. As did the twins, following suit. Overhead on the horizon. The kestrels could be seen swooping and displaying their dynamic glides and twirls and pirouettes . as then malphor said looking on "and children remember what I told you . beware of those trolls. They're vicious . stay with the giants at all times!"

Susan and steven perhaps only half understood. Being supervised meant restraints and that, was not the children's entirety as the giants said "farewell malphor ". And then the children , had a glint in their eye, for they had met the auspicious grey bearded giant or 'wise one, no doubt !

As the children were once again carefully placed in Goliath's hand . the formidable giants. Almost crossed the cold ground beneath them, with frantic strides. Stopping by the rocks, along their journey. But they finally made it to their cave in no time, without delay and without any havoc.

The next day as the children slept . and it was early morning . as the giants daily routine, would be to exercise and what they thoroughly enjoyed was a game called 'rolling the stones'. This consisted of giant stones being rolled until they hit a slab of rock on the other side of the track. This was an agility test for the giants. In short. As Edgar decided to wake Susan and steven and tell them of their desire to take, them along. To this event.

Susan half awoke, was ruffled a little as she said "Edgar so you tell me we can go and watch you all, rolling stones. How interesting hmm".

Edgar replied "not only that . you can roll miniature ones. We carved for you both. If you like ?"

Susan beamed and then said to steven excitedly "steven , steven wake up. Edgar and the others are going to take us to a place where, we all roll big and small round stones. Are you in? I'm so excited . it'll be fun you know".

Steven yawned "yeah whatever you say, go on then I'm up for it".

iEdgar beamed as he said "well that's been decided . we all go by mid day okay brothers . you all heard me. Midday and not a minute later".

It was midday and they, were all very much excited to venture out. Towards their games. To commence at that, brushed landscape . as they began their journey, which was a few kilometres in distance. As goliath lead them all. In haste. Excitedly Susan could, see and help but notice the kestrels flying high above in tow. Their ultimate guides and watchout for now.

The place was as they left it. Undisturbed . as the stones lay still. As the giants finally arrived and so did the twins . not to mention . Edgar lowered the twins from the palm of his hand. Towards the ground , beneath .

The games would commence . as Goliath took hold . firstly of the oval stone and pushed and thrashed it in a rolling motion. As it moved and circled and finally hit the square slab, with a thud. In turn lurch and Edgar did so also. In parrot fashion. And then it was Susan and steven's turn. As they held the smaller of the miniature stones and pushed them with their , full might. And they also rolled across. They struggled even to push them once. As the giants, laughed a great deal amongst themselves, and at the twins. As Susan crossed her arms , as in a strop. She somehow didn't find their laughter amusing. And felt upset .

Steven on the other hand laughed at himself , for falling behind in these stone rolling games !

The giants noticed the sad expression on Susan's face. As they, strolled over to her and then Edgar said "look little one. It's a game and you haven't got our strength, but you took part, showed the initiative. That's all that matters. Trial and error. You will get the hang of it. I promise. Shall we go back home. time is marching on. And I'm quite hungry right about now".

As Susan's belly also grumbled with hunger. As so did Edgar's. in the event. The giants were done with these games, for now. As goliath reached out to grasp the twins in to the his palm and off they all went in a haste. Towards their lustrous cave, where no doubt the children would be fed on edible wild berries and deer meat.

After all that's all that was available and foraging was a past time for the giants. And Susan and steven were beginning to fall in to their way of life . their system . this lifestyle that had, never really suited them, on any given day, was becoming their normality for now !

One night as the giants slept heavily unbeknown to them. The trolls, had finally sussed and sniffed out the children through reliable sources. Their friend 'sly' the crow bird. A tarnished charcoal colour. Who was in fact a gigantic bird who was the trolls ally. And would often bring news on the twins whereabouts daily to the king troll. In months of preparation the army of trolls, had ventured in across the south towards the north in their numbers.

They wished to capture the children . they had stopped several times in within the course of their journey. Setting up camp, by the many swamps on giants land and going unnoticed by the giants. And finally , they had arrived within kilometres to where the giants, dwelling was. As the head troll, ordered his fellow trolls to advance, but quietly towards the mouth of goliaths cave. As they possessed bind weed . and reels of it. Enough to bind the giants hands and feet tight.

And it was the strongest tort bind weed, you could find on giant land. As the trolls crept inside . the children were fast asleep. Also the giants, were in a state of slumber. As the trolls rallied around them starting their vendetta by kris crossing the giants with the bind weed in all directions.

Tying their hands and feet gently, as not to awake them. The giants were, caught off guard on this occasion. Which was strange, as they were normally robust in their alertness, but then the kestrels raised the alarm, with their cawing, as then suddenly the giants awoke. As they viewed the trolls trying to escape as Edgar and the others yelled "you have the audacity to enter our cave. You numb wits we'll teach you a lesson. You'll never forget, as the giants untangled the bindweed, with a mighty rip, as the bindweed broke. Quite effortlessly as they then watched the trolls run for their life. Goliath then shouted "be gone you silly trolls. Otherwise my brothers and I will destroy you all in a instance".

Susan and steven , were awoken by this commotion briefly and became ever so frightened . as they were made aware, that the trolls, had been inside their domain. As lurch then said "these pesky trolls my brothers will stop at nothing to try and snatch the children. We must keep them at bay, as one day it may become dire and distressful for us and the children. We cannot lose them now. We must be more vigilant. Goliath from now you must sleep by the mouth of the cave and if it wasn't for these loyal kestrels. Who knows what further chaos the trolls planned for us and the twins?"

Goliath replied "but are we frightened in the least brothers. I guess not by their lame advance. They are no match for us and never will be".

The giants stood adamant, that they could, protect the children by their acute awareness and pure strength. And that was enough for now.

"after all the trolls never methodical or strategical to pose a threat to us", goliath thought introvertly.

Meanwhile in the north on the other side of giants land he trolls didn't have an inkling of what would overcome them. They were involved in a clash so mighty , that no doubt it would be so difficult to withstand. The brute force of the polar bears lead by their leader zarnos . who resided in the south by a gigantic lake, some say as legends foretold. Ice cold sub zero temperatures . glaciers that surrounded them so natural and a million years old in estimation. But it was strange to imagine , but all true. And the polar bears lead by their leader Zarnos, was formidable and he had a hatred towards the trolls, that manifested over time, as in the past the trolls in conflict had managed to slay one of these polar bears, who in fact was Zarnos half brother. These bears wore shielded armour over their long furry bodies, as Zarnos had lead an army of maybe ten to fifteen entities. They were huge in body mass and were heading for the lair of the trolls.

And Zarnos , would show no mercy, for his vented anger burned still within his chest. And he wanted to finish the trolls off. Annihilate each and every one of them, until they were no more or even displaced and disorientated. Meanwhile the trolls were bashful . throwing their caution to the wind. As they had a feast in disorderly fashion. Which happened once a month. Whereby the trolls would jig and pirouette and drink pukey homemade cordial and lose their senses and get blindly drunk on ale.

Their fate would, be ultimately sealed , once the polars arrived. An attack was imminent , no doubt. As Zarnos and the others crossed many sections of land and caves and grazing plains. Day and night as they finally neared the fortress of the trolls. As Zarnos gave the order and said "now quickly bears encircle them. Breach the gates by force and kill every grotesque troll in sight. No one should be spared spartas".

Spartas wasn't that brave. One of those species , that would shy away from combat, but he was forced to join combat by Zarnos or face the back lash of exile from the clan of polar bears and their lair!

Spartas almost heaved his way through as did the others as they, barged through the wrought iron gates. The walls either side of the gate came tumbling down. Crumbling as Zarnos roared , with anger. As the fifteen or so raced towards the fortress . Zarnos felt more enraged by the sighted trolls. As they tried to withstand the polar bears mighty assault.

As the trolls were, in fact equipped with spears and giant rocks, as they began to pelt the many polar bears with the jagged rocks and pierced their skin with their spears. As the battle continued . it became more intense, more heated and more severe. As Zarnos shouted "get them . show no mercy. Spare no one. "

As the bears careered in forwards motion . the trolls then tried to build a barrier wall with their bodies. Side by side and on each others shoulders surmounting to nothing. As Zarnos advanced further. Side stepping the many trolls. Slipping unnoticed in to the fortress. Snidely he ran towards their leader . who was sat on his seat , as he nervously enquired "who are you bear? What is it you want with us ?"

Zarnos then angrily replied "you remember . you slaughtered my half brother at the battle of 'glaciers'. And now you will pay with your life. You do understand me don't you?"

The troll leader distressingly replied "no not really. I can't remember a thing . where in the glaciers? What half brother ? and by whom was, he murdered?"

Zarnos grew more enraged and roared "don't play games with me. It will never work. You know exactly what you did. Now enough whilst I finish you and your clan".

The troll leader then whined and got angry himself as he then yelled with a croaky distinct tone of voice "trolls capture this one will you? And then banish him. Get rid of him".

The trolls that were in the fortress scampered and strayed and scarpered out of sight. The troll king was left to his own vices. No help for him , was set aside. He was now doomed. The trolls knew from the inset , that this battle was mismatched . the odds were in the favour of Zarnos and his clan of polar bears. As the troll king and Zarnos further battled whits and then the troll king leapt to his feet and charged at Zarnos, with as little as a spear, kept by his side.

As Zarnos leapt in to the air, with full outburst of rage. The fight ensued and Zarnos lashed out with his sharp paws, claws pierced the troll kings body, and blows to his face, as they fought to the bitter end, but the troll king fell backwards as he sighed his last breath hard on the ground, beneath him.

Zarnos and the others stood victorious. As Zarnos viewed the carnage of dead trolls. Their bodies strewn on the hard ground everywhere. As the polar bears rejoiced, with a jostled roar, and then calmness ensued thereafter. As they remained in a statuesque state. As zarnos declared to the others "we have won. The trolls are no more except for those that have got away. Their dreary king is dead. But I believe there are some giants that , still remain on these lands and we must battle with them for supremacy over giants land. And even if it means the cost of some of your spilt blood. Do you all hear me?"

The clan jostled and roared with excitement . for they had won one battle, but knew the biggest battle with the giants, was still left to materialise!

The meeting would become apparent, as it was inevitable and until that fraught day. Both parties were safe, but these bears. Wanted to claim these lands for themselves. Selfishly and therefore would, remain in contempt!

Meanwhile the giants and the twins, were totally unaware, that these ferocious polar bears actually existed in the south as they were preparing their jaunt, to visit the forest. That housed a dense amount of trees, where they would begin to hunt red deer. Goliath and the others would , teach the youngsters the skill needed to track down those Deer's and kill them essentially for foodstuff.

As goliath said to the twins "do you both want to hunt, with us. It will be exciting I add and I hope to make you expert hunters one day".

Susan thought "oh another tiring exercise , but I'm used to this by now. Steven what about you ? are you very excited?"

Steven replied "of course yes red deer. I must be part of this hunt."

As both of their eyes peeled and their smiles grew larger and wider. So the giants and the twins set off in tow . embarking on their journey to feral forests. In haste. It was not of a grand distance to travel, as the twins put their boots on and their watches were , almost fastened to their wrists. As for the giants. They were equipped with giant stone clubs and bows and polished arrows, which they would launch at the red deer, if they were able on a sighting.

As they trudged every inch of this forest. Thinking , that they're were no signs of deer, let alone any animal or smaller antelope. The forest floor lay empty in a sense. But all hope was not lost as a flicker of a image of red deer came more clearer to them. Hollering a female doe. She appeared out of nowhere . As lurch positioned his bow and arrow as he marked this deer. Until precision was met. And alarmingly the bow went hurtling towards the deer and he clumsily missed his target. As he cried "oops, that one got away. Children don't be dismayed. By my lame attempt. I'll get that deer next time".

The twins chuckled as they simultaneously said "what if there isn't a next time and if it is the same deer, that would be a miracle".

The twins found lurches antics humorous. As goliath ranted "well he's definitely a trier , but he could never get his target right, oh well lurch better luck next time"

Lurch grimaced a great deal. He fell silent and seriousness overwhelmed him. He didn't find the whole episode quite as funny as it so happens. As they chased the deer through every shrub and every tree, that was blanched with gleaming green. The trickle of the light filtered through the gaps of branches. Seeping through in to the forest. As they all went further inside the fold. Susan fell in to a swamp and so did steven, as they both gulped and remained terrifyingly still. As they could. As to not sink any further. Goliath extended his giant arm and in the event managed to pull them out one by one.

As he said "this forest is full of swamps and they smell horrible. Be careful Susan and steven. As we all must. Apart from the swamps there are brambles and stinging nettles and don't they give you a nasty scratch and don't I know it. "

Susan enquired "are they everywhere and this forest is huge. Does it go on forever?"

Goliath replied "it has an end to it, but never been that far yet. Brothers have you ?"

Edgar replied "nor me . I've been three quarters in , but not all the way to the end".

Susan began to become restless and said "shall we call it a day. Go back home I'm hungry".

Lurch then said "alright . we've better had and besides it's getting late in the day".

So in fact the hunt was called off and would be saved for another day, no doubt!

As they all proceeded towards home. they had another idea, that deer was readily available, but not be theirs in the event. The cave was beckoning for them all. And the twins had pangs of hunger by now, although there was ample of wild berries in a wooden bowl. And a previous rack of deer meat hanging by a skewer back in the cave.

CHAPTER FOUR- THE OTHER GIANTS

Meanwhile in the east . there resided a family of other giants, surprisingly so. But Edgar and his brothers were, not in the loop of knowledge of their existence, as such. As they had always believed they were the only giants habituated in giants land. As it stood . so this would come as a shock and if they were, all ever to meet each perhaps.

These giants names were, Agatha, Marley and their off springs, Bryson and Billet. They were a timid family , but like all giants. If you happen to annoy them, then watch out, as their wrath was more deadly and heated no doubt.

They lived in the east side border of giants land. And remained inconspicuous for a very long period. Generations of giants resided before them on that, patch of land. Agatha was a fine cook and would prepare the deer broth to Marley's liking of course and if it wasn't cooked right. Marley would, throw a tantrum, whereby even the cave shook with horror. Bryson and Billet , were in fact mischievous as they were used to pilfering for kestrel eggs and smashing them against the rockface. They actually detested kestrels and any sort of bird on these islands. But little did they know, that aerial the grand kestrel was hiding behind the ridge of their cave . wating and watching and listening to everything they were saying or doing.

He would eves drop and would report back to Edgar and his brothers on these strange sightings of the other giants. But he was rather confused as malphor never disclosed this knowledge to goliath previously on their visit. "maybe it wasn't such an important thing, anyhow the kestrel named aerial would however fly back to goliath's cave and disclose this new information to him. Whether it be fully digested by the three giants. Would be incomprehensible no doubt!

Aerial along with the other two kestrels flew higher then the clouds could, could carry them in a word. As their wings flapped harder and harder . as they were intent on passing this new found knowledge to the giants in the north . their alliance was with them and the children no doubt.

As the kestrels by now must have flown for hours it seemed. As they swooped low and then perched on the rockface just near the cave, as they cawed a great deal . as the shrills became louder and louder. As it fell upon the kestrels ears. As he knew that, sound from anywhere . he recognised instantly it was , that of their friend aerial.

As he raced to outside to greet him. Aerial knew he had to tell him of the sighting and told him and the others. As he said "goliath we have returned swiftly , for we have great surprising revelations. We have spotted other giants who reside in the east. Yes just like yourselves. I'm miffed , maybe just as you are".

Goliath replied astounded "what other giants. Can't be . are you sure? Your eyes are not deceiving you. Quick let me return inside and tell the others about this , oh my word".

As goliath raced inside his cave met by the others . he couldn't contain himself as he said to lurch and to Edgar "aerial has just told me of a revelation, that and wait for it . we have other giants living on giants land. Apart from us. "

Edgar puzzled replied "can't be true , when in all my travels . in every direction . I have not encountered my own kind, unbelievable".

Lurch stood dumbfounded , speechless came to mind ! as he said coyly "well you must deliver our message on parched paper. I mean the kestrel aerial must fly back and drop it by the entrance of their dwelling. It must read as follows :

Dear brothers and sisters and young ones . IT IS A PLEASURE THAT WE WRITE TO YOU BEING GIANTS OURSELVES. FOR THE UNION TO TAKE PLACE. IF YOU CAN HONOUR US BY JOURNEYING AND JOINING US IN THE EAST. AT OUR DISTINCT CAVE. S O WE CAN FRATERNIZE . MAYBE GET TO KNOW YOU MUCH BETTER".

As goliath sat down by the stone table and reached for the parched paper and wrote those words profusely. His mind was on one thing . to see how much alike they all were. A curiosity , that couldn't wait. A longing to belong to an alliance of other giants, itself. It was not just about the circle now, but an extended one, at that !

The sealed letter was given to aerial , as he seized it within his talons. As he flew unmercifully towards the horizon and then diagonally towards the east. For he knew it was an important mission to deliver and relay in a sense, their message. Many an hour had elapsed as aerial was in flight . resting upon tree tops or cliff edges along his journey. Until that, fateful moment, when he neared the cave of the miscellaneous giants. And he swooped low enough by the mouth of their cave and duly dropped the letter , from his clutches.

Aerial hoped , that the new found giants , would come across this important letter, somehow. As he reverted and flew back in the direction of the east. Low and behold the giants noticed by stepping on the letter at first, then merely exclaimed "what is this bit of parched paper stuck to my shoe ", as Marley lifted it towards his eyes, as he read it intrusively "hmm ", he said as his partner Agatha said "well it must be important read it out loud to me. Let me see what it says . Marley raised an eyebrow as did Agatha as they were both gobsmacked and then sighed. Agatha then said "well it's giants like us in the east, they wish to form a union with us . should we be doing this Marley?

Should we let our guards down, for a second".

Marley replied "yes, I 've heard of that clan and to be honest. It should be interesting, I'm not sceptical".

Agatha replied "nor me. If you will let's make the journey to the east, after all we have nothing to lose and all to gain, perhaps".

Agatha and Marley decided on the spot, that this was the right decision to make. As they informed their two offspring of their wishes to frequent the east in a matter of days. The youngsters became ever so excited on the prospect of meeting giants like them, but they were, not to know of the human children. As this was not disclosed in the parched letter . it was to remain a hidden secret, for now. No doubt, until they could see, for their very own eyes.

A few days seem to pass. As Marley packed a few essentials in his giant satchel . mainly an urn of water. Some ale in a separate urn. And few other things. Agatha didn't really pack much. Apart from her giant hairbrush. She didn't like her hair messy. Especially , when she knew that they would, be guests as such. In a far away place.

As Bryson and billet were packing some belongings. Mainly berries , which they would consume on their journey, which no doubt, would be tiring and drawn out. As they left their dwelling , that was all of them. The four giants looked back for a short time. Just to take it all in, for a brief moment. Of course they were worried , that somebody or something may inhabit their cave in their absence , but this was a chance , they had to take. For the journey ahead , could be far greater and no doubt could be full of surprises!

The journey was gruelling , as Bryson and billet complained awfully of blisters on their toes. As billet said "mother, my toes are hurting from, all this walking . I need to rest, please just for a little while a at least".

Agatha replied "well that's what we shall do then. All of us are tired. It's been a day or so of walking . we'll rest by that chalky rock . and keep our eyes peeled. For wolves and other beasts, that may be around. Marley what do you think?"

Marley replied sharpish "well that's what I was thinking, but didn't want to say anything

Because the youngsters said it for me. Yes let's rest by that chalky rock. God knows my knees are hurting and my back. Agatha instructed them all to sit by that rock, for essential rest and for their own welfare. If they, had not , they could actually over exert themselves too much and the deficit, would be too great. To their health as it stood.

They sat down , that was all four of them. Until sleep overtook them. Nightfall had, begun to creep in, manifest. The day had been long and they thanked their lucky stars, they could retire, for a duration. But no doubt once they awoke. They would have to resume their journey, with a vigorous will to meet their would be friends. The other giants in the east.

Hours had drifted. In fact , they had lost track of all time. Until they all opened their eyelids to the sound of giant buzzards and the cool wind swaying as Marley said "what's that howling sound Agatha? Where's it coming from? Ahh there I can see shadows , outlines of tufty haired wolves. They look savage and dangerous. Quick children get up. We may have to fight this one out".

Bryson and billet got up and prepared a wall, with their body mass as the wolves growled and ventured forward, as Marley then said "quick wave your clubs. " as they all waved their clubs in unison. It didn't alter a thing. The conflict was inevitable as the giants tussled with these bad, hungry wolves. It was as though it was a repeat of when Edgar and his brothers encountered wolves previously in the east.

As Marley then decided to use more brute force and slapped the wolves one by one about the face and body. Their musky grins soon disappeared. As the wolves snarled and then yelped and eventually they, were defeated by the giants and one by one they, fell to their dismay and hard to the ground. They got up on their hind legs and soon retreated .

As Agatha said exhaustingly "well that was a bout, that I would never want again. Well done Bryson and billet and especially Marley. And you're a tough old thing, aren't you?"

Marley replied "yes protect my family you know it's everything to me Agatha and protect I will".

No doubt there would be more mishaps along the journey, but they would have to combat anything to reach the east border of giants land. After all, they had distant would be friends waiting to fraternize, with them. To form a new reunion and hopefully the giants clan, could become even more empowered and more stable in the event.

A few days had passed and luckily for Marley and his clan. There were no further mishaps or obstacles to face. Their journey was still long winded and no doubt as Marley said whilst lazily resting by that, gigantic tree to Agatha and the others" I believe by my guesswork, that we may have covered much ground and we could be nearing the giants lair. So be prepared to be humble as we don't wish for our friends to assume we have bad manners. Which we don't anyway"

Agatha replied sharpish "well Marley if your implying to my burping. It's the ale we both keep drinking. It has that, effect you know. If you know what I mean".

They all immediately began to cackle a great deal. As Bryson and billet found this very amusing and in the moment. Marley was ecstatic, with laughter and nearly rolled over a few times".

After a few hours more of vigorous travelling . Marley and the others felt a strange relief . as their moods became more jovial. But at the same time nervousness seeped in to their beings. As Marley shouted loudly "giants we are here. Can you see that weather beaten cave over there . it could be that of Edgar and his brothers".

Agatha replied excitedly "what the giants, that sent us their letter by carrier kestrel?"

"yes, that's right". Said Marley as they proceeded instep cautiously and timidly . as they neared the mouth of the cave. Goliath was prepared to meet them and caught sight of them off guard as he said "oh my it's like a mirrored image of myself and your name was?"

My name is Marley and this here is Agatha and they are Bryson and billet ".

"so come inside and meet my family will you ", said Goliath as he ushered them in frantically . once inside the cave, they went further and further inside together . taken in by the natural awe of it all. Goliath's cave was grand. And shimmering and Marley noticed this staring all the while.

As the reached the area, that had the stone table and seats they naturally bumped in to the others, as Edgar said "so you must be the giants of the south . I've not heard or seen you before. It is my pleasure to meet you all, finally".

As lurch excitedly said "same goes for me". But when the visiting giants viewed the human children. It seemed the biggest surprise for Marley and his clan, as he said "well, well so these human children right. First time I've seen humans. If you don't mind me asking. How did they land here in giants land?".

Goliath replied quizzical "so as you said landed being the operative word, yes they landed , but badly by helicopter, which crashed and well they survived and their parents didn't. that's all I know".

Agatha puzzled also then quizzed "then you've seen the other bodies. Do you think their still lying at that same spot?"

Goliath replied "well they must be, as I never moved them. We were, fearful at the time".

Agatha pensively then replied "well I bet the trolls have come across them or maybe polar bears of the south divide. You know about them right?"

Goliath said astoundingly "no not at all, who are they?"

Marley replied interruptingly "they are treacherous and merciless and they will trounce everything , but us giants are far bigger. I believe there are many of them and they could, be soon on the move towards the east. That is your border, I believe".

Goliath then replied "well let them come our way. If they feel brave enough, let them approach us".

Marley then said "well if we stick together then maybe they'll be less destructive , but giants land is meant to be peaceful on the whole, and that is exactly us entirely . I mean we will have to stand and fight ".

As they both sat down eventually and pondered upon their notion. The youngsters began forming a union with the children as Susan asked billet "would you like some wild berries and what is your favourite colour. And how far do you live ".

Susan quizzed Bryson and billet as did they , as the hours toiled away. Steven remained quiet the whole time as he wasn't trying to absorb all this new found commotion within the camp. No doubt. As the elders discussed the possibility of their lengthened stay at the giants lair. Or cave as it were. The prospect of a battle between them and the polar bears of the south, was looming and intuition told them all, that it would be the case of supremacy . the bears vs the giants , but not on level ground. More an encounter of the odds, being possibly in the favour of the giants, but anything was possible for the beseeched future. And what would come with it , no doubt!

As the visiting giants became more settled in the east and certainly in the company of the other giants, no doubt. Edgar said "so these are the sleeping arrangements, for tonight and many nights more, no doubt. You are welcome to stay for however long, your heart allows you to".

Marley replied happily "well let's just say a few nights for now. As we must get back to our cave eventually and tend to our chores. Being many as you can understand, that jobs only get done, if you do them".

Edgar nodded in agreement, he understood, that they too had things to tend to, in the south and this was just a flying visit, no doubt!

The next day would bring it's fair share of delight and the weather was standard. A grey dull day, as the many giants ventured in to the forest together . it was a day of exploration and a day , that would disclose something extraordinary . goliath would reveal all to Marley and his clan, very soon.

As they ventured further and further in to the forest . dense with foliage. Trees that, sagged and brambles , that grew wild either side of the stream. As they neared a patch of forest goliath said "stop here Marley can you see this bulky tree. In fact this apple tree it is hundreds of years old. It bears fruit. And it is so wise. His name is hollow".

Marley replied surprised as he said "but it looks like many other trees in the south you know. There's no actual difference".

Goliath then replied "no, no pick it's apples . take one and bite on it. You know it gives you supernatural strength . ask it?"

Marley clutched at an apple ruby red, as he bite hard. Chewing a lump of apple flesh and then hollow spoke suddenly as it said "but that is bad manners. You never asked my permission did you?"

Marley grimaced and replied confusedly "but I thought Goliath said it would be okay to take the apple , from your branch. And is it true to say it gives you supernatural strength. And by the way, I'm sorry for not asking for your permission".

Hollow replied in a raspy tone "for trees do not often speak, but it doesn't matter . you've taken one now. How so you feel. If anything different, maybe?"

Marley replied "I feel invincible and can I have another apple?"

Hollow replied " no, only one per giant. That's the rule and inform you all as a matter of urgency. We trees do communicate with each other. Whether it be in north or south , east or west and we have seen massacres, treachery and now the word of a clan of polar bears advancing to the east. Stop them, before they annihilate all of you".

Goliath stood adjacent to Marley and replied nervously "no way how far are they?"

Hollow replied "the exact distance is not known as of yet, but they will be there in a matter of days!"

Edgar replied quickly "well if that's the case we must prepare for battle . everyone must eat an apple, I suppose. Thanks hollow for the prewarning. "

Goliath stood dumbfounded , as he said "we must set up traps. Attack them from all sides. And rattle their senses. Although they may be formidable. We are far smarter and by far larger in size. We must leave the forest forthwith and become more cunning. "

They all reverted and headed back to the cave to make preparations. Susan and steven, were in a sense now very terrified and possibly out of their wits. They had never witnessed a battle as such. And couldn't quite grasp the whole situation, for they were mortals from England . their way of life involved mundane events. Not as courageous or colourful as giants land and they, were certainly now more shocked as ever.

After all what were the twins able to do to prolong the supposed arrival of the polar bears. It was a waiting game for all. And wait they would, perhaps.

After some time a few miles, they all were famished and may have stopped a few times to consume water and wild berries. And finally returned back at the cave. Now the giants totalled seven and plus two children. They had to hatch a plan , which was fail safe. It had to prove successful to beat these nasty , horrid polar bears. And if they, could receive a sign, perhaps. To alert them of forthcoming danger. It would be for the kestrels to do so. Their allies and trusted friends indeed.

Who could steer them a fair amount out of danger. No doubt or at least alarm them of any sightings of these wretched beasts. And they could at least try and stop them in their tracks. So goliath, lurch and Edgar and not forgetting the visiting giants sat down by the stone table, which was very large in diameter and discussed laying traps. And usage of weaponry and other stuff as goliath said to the others "we must sharpen our swords and test the durance of these tin helmets, which need reinforcing .

And the ball and chains they need tightening . everything has to be restored in perfect condition. Edgar then replied tentatively "well we will try and restore our weaponry and we should dig trenches big enough for the polar bears to fall in , unexpectedly !"

Marley and Agatha agreed, that the weaponry they had upon inspection looked tatty and ancient, but they all decided that was all they had in their possession, as the conversation eased between them.

They began meticulously laying the traps outside and in and around the perimeter of the cave in haste. As there was no time to waste. Meanwhile aerial the kestrel was aspiring high. Flying in the midst. Almost above the cotton clouds. Trying to catch a glimpse of the polar bears advance and to see whether their leader was, amongst them. This would become a more dangerous game if he was.

As aerial flew almost mile after mile scanning everything even the field mouse and the dotted trees in his peripheral view and then suddenly aerial noticed snowflake white, colour full on beasts. That were in procession. Marching almost single file. There were, twelve of them and they looked fierce indeed. Their growling could be heard, from the treetops, almost !

As aerial gulped. His beak twitched. His retina dilated as he captured that vision of those polar bears bringing war to the east. At a grand scale. As aerial glided and then exerted himself and flapped his wings faster and faster. Gaining speed and momentum. As he flew many miles in the air. After hours his feathers were ruffled as he neared his cave. He plummeted towards the pedal stool or jagged rockface and perched on it. He cawed as his noise alerted goliath to venture outside. The cave. As did the others .

As aerial said "the bears are advancing. Their on their way. Journeying towards us. We must act fast. Put everything in to place goliath, for heaven sake act fast ".

Goliath and the others took their giant shovels and made further trenches and covered them with, branches and foliage. And then they sharpened and repaired their weaponry in haste. It could be that, the polar bears, could still be miles away or inches away, as the case maybe.

The polar bears were still distant , as their leader Zarnos said to the others "we will stop and rest by those trees, that is camouflage for us. And certainly we will resume our journey in to the morning. The night sky was dawning upon them all. As they all became somewhat agitated and weary.

Meanwhile the giants in the east. Successfully dug their trenches and repaired their weaponry. Standing exhausted throughout the day. As goliath said whilst standing by the trench" all is done now. We have initiated traps and sourced out all weaponry. We must prepare our head gear and our shields. In fact we must be of vigilance and try to stay ahead of them".

Agatha sighed as she said "well goliath I hope your right, for our sakes. For I 've heard , that the polar bears are mighty and athletic. And they devour blood, especially mortal blood and even giants like us. That is what I'm afraid of most".

Goliath spoke boldly and said "well if that is what they seek, then we shall not let them slay a single giant, and the children's safety is of utmost importance".

Edgar interrupted by saying "well we are not of a disadvantage, but they will be. They do not know of the east, and what it beholds. Our knowledge of our vast land is great. And I hope the many wolves get to them first, although they are despicable and a wretched beast , if that".

Marley grimaced , as he said "well our stay here has now lengthened , but to help our fellow giants, is our honour and pleasure. If it means breaking a tooth or a fall. Unity is our strength . and courage is our ally. "

Edgar and the others smiled and a certainty of reassurance surged around them, that they felt a tight nit bond, that could not be tethered in any given moment. And now they, would have to wait with resilience and a integrity until the inevitable clash with the polar bears and whatever the outcome. The giants should prevail one way or another !

Meanwhile Zarnos and his clan, were advancing further and further towards the east , with every pawprint ever set down on the ground. They were marking their territory in a sense. And their stay at different locations, would be brief. As they had one thing on their warped minds. And that was to capture or kill the giants in the east lands. As Zarnos roared as he said to his army of bears "we have rested in maples and in Colden and every forest possible and we must keep going keep moving forward . for if we stop then, everything will pass us by.

Including the idea of any territorial rule".

The clan barked with excitement as they heard their leader with conviction. They knew that, the time of polar bear supremacy was dawning upon them. Still with an infinite outcome. As they advanced further, they finally met with a wiseman. Out of the blue. They were startled by his presence. And it was remarkable sighting for them, as they were not aware of any obstructions, until now.

And as Zarnos caught sight of the wise one. His jaw dropped . puzzled he stood. Trying to figure out this giant of a being. In fact the wise one was present to stop Zarnos and the others in their tracks and would calculate and drum up some magic to change their course, as he then summoned the ferocious winds, that ensued . as they swished and swirled in contempt. As the wise one then uttered, within his hoarse voice "winds stop these treacherous lot, from advancing further. Let them not trespass. And lessen their anarchy towards our friends the giants. Do you hear me oh great winds?"

As he said this concisely the great winds blew gusts, that must have reached over hundreds miles an hour. Fierce as they tugged every tree and every rock and finally the polar bear was blasted . as they erratically were blown backwards. They tried in vain, as the winds gathered strength and then as the wise one suddenly turned his back. Zarnos unsuspectedly launched himself carrying all of his body weight. As he pounced in to the air. His paws outstretched . he then landed a fierce blow on the wise ones body. As he fell to the ground. In pain as silence overtook him, as the winds lessened and almost just a stir.

As the spell was broken no doubt. Zarnos screeched and barked in happiness, as he felt he had won this bout. And more likely he had done. As there was no physical movement from the wise one. Zarnos ordered his clan to resume their journey and at the same time felt enraged by the appearance of the wizard. As he thought "I've never seen this bearded man before. Humans there must be more of them. ? maybe they too reside on the east border? Maybe there could be a whole village of their kind ? or maybe more accurately this wizard had links with the giants, no doubt".

Hazy notions, that filled Zarnos head. He felt stupefied even still, but refused to turn back on his heels. Adamant he would bring the fight to the giants, sooner then later, perhaps !

The wise one or the wizard you may say , was down stone cold. Out of action. As Zarnos beamed with tenacity. Now the journey would, continue no doubt. As the giants were also prepared for a fight, in all proportions. Days and nights prevailed . as the giants waited and suddenly the polar bears appeared in their territory. As they approached . the clever kestrel aerial sounded shrieks to the others. Almost in a sense a clear alarm call.

The polar bears advanced much further . beyond the brush and the long thickets. Past a huge well, with the pulley intact . the poor hares were alarmed also. As they, scuttled for safety in their burrows. As their leader growled and in turn the pack of bears lunged forward , with brute force and strength with their chest proudly out. A heinous lot no doubt. As they neared the cave of the giants. Not knowing exactly if that was actually their lair. Haphazardly stumbling on their find. As the bears growled ferociously . sniffing out human scent in the mix, they knew from that point. The children were here, as their leader said "it is humans that, reside along with giants. I can smell them. My senses tell me they are here, within this cave".

All of a sudden , the bears were ambushed by the giants, from all four sides and in every direction. As the polar bears gave a large roar simultaneously and then foreclosed and charged forwards in formation . all fifteen of them. The giants charged also and suddenly in a haze of smoke. Catastrophe began to unfold, as some bears fell to their demise. Plummeting deep within those trenches and pits of sharp thorns and others took a beating by the hammering of clubs that the giants wielded.

And then Zarnos their leader felt a surge of energy. Along with a few others. As the battle became more engaged . more furious as both sides , were enraged . all of sudden the polar bears bared the upper hand. As Zarnos pulverised Lurch , with his snout. As lurch fell to the ground. Unconscious. Goliath retaliated and then decided to charge again. As he was beaten tactically , when two polar bears gauged him with their snouts and then stood upright and pawed him. He too fell to the ground, with a slump.

Luckily for now the twins , were safe for now. Within the cave. The furthest part was the safest. As the giants outside tussled and jostled , with sheer ferocity and then the out of nowhere Aerial had alerted his friends the many kestrels of the sky. To fight these polar beasts. As they emerged in their many numbers. Almost encircling the polar bears. As they were, clutching lumpy stones and released them from their clenches. As they fired these at the polar bears. It had a small impression and more kestrels launched more larger stones.

As they hit the polar bears, with force. It had the desired effect, as Edgar also hit Zarnos with a large mace. As his face became cut and bruised and his eyesight was blurred . diminishing all of a sudden. The polar bear clan retreated. As they looked back and scowled. The giant Edgar pursued them further, but let them run, as he shouted "let that be a lesson to you. Weaklings. Never return to the east. I mean never !".

As the concussed giants. Regained consciousness. They were helped to their feet. By Marley who also fought , but managed to avoid any serious affliction and Agatha and her brood, were stationery, with the two children, susan and steven. As the giants assessed the situation further bruised and battered, as lurch said "well brothers. There have been casualties. Two of them those bears, they have been beaten to a pulp. The rocks have hurt them greatly, and they have scarpered . brothers we must make sure the children are well inside the dwelling. They must never be exposed to the many atrocities on giants land. Okay everyone? "

Goliath replied assuredly "yes brothers . must be decisive. Skilful and above all cunning . in tackling affliction and conmon enemies coming our way. Whatever it's troll or polar bear or centurion coming our way. For our world is always open to straying cats in a sense, no doubt. All I am saying is be on guard at all times, okay".

They all nodded consecutively and in agreement , that all of their safety , was critical and all of the time !

As the giants then entered their cave to join the other giants, who were still very frightened to say the least. Shivering like a leaf. And the two children , were quite upset now. More then ever. They felt even more homesick. As Susan and steven missed their home comforts. Basic access to tap water. A stroll in their local park and more importantly chips and mouth watering ice cream, were at the top of their agenda.

Susan knew these comforts were far removed for now. She reminisced on those tranquil days, where her mother would cook everything for them both. Asking for nothing and their dad would, reward them for doing chores around the home, as Susan almost froze in this daydream state. Still surrounded by her giant friends. Those memories haunted her still, as she then recalled blurred images of their helicopter mangled and their decaying parents, which brought great stress as tears streamed down her face. As goliath enquired "Susan why are you crying . look we've chased those bears away. We've won this intermittent battle for now, but were always here for you, remember this. And you should know this always?"

Susan mumbled as the murmured a few words with a gulp in her voice as she said "goliath it's just that, mum and dad died in a horrible way. I just can't forget them. I wish they were alive. And we could return home, but we would miss you all an awful lot. But for now home is here and that is England you know".

Goliath's feelings were mutual . he totally sympathised with the twins. As he understood their grief, as he said " Susan don't fret. Be happier maybe one day. Someone will come back for you, that could be the rest of your maternal family".

Susan replied "I know , maybe I have a small family . their isn't many of us. Like some families , who have lots of members, you know?"

Goliath listened intently and absorbed her conversation fully. He was not to be deterred by the battle , that had just occurred and had been won. Not so long ago.

Meanwhile Zarnos , had returned to his lair. Scathed and weary along with his surviving clan members. As the crowd of arctic polar bears jostled and some jeered in the rows, that were formed either side of him , back at the glacier fortress, as he angrily said "my fellow bears. This was a calculated move on their part. The giants managed to outwit us on that occasion. But that will be their last chance, that they'll ever have. I promise you all this much. They've annihilated many of our bears and they, must pay for their wrongdoings. Raise your paws in my understanding, that we all seek revenge."

As the many gigantic polar bears roared and raised their paws in contempt. It was as if a sea of gleaming bears , were unanimous and still rife with anger and agitation . they would stop at nothing and meter out a great punishment, which awaited the giants, in the grand scheme of things !

CHAPTER FIVE- THE FAMILY

Meanwhile on the east borders, Susan and stevens uncle Simon and aunt Florence and not forgetting the pilot of the helicopter named 'Britannia'. Were flying over their very shores. Giants land unexpectedly had, visitors in the airways. In the midst of it all. It had been several months. As they had been desperate for a sighting of their family members on these islands. As they had tracked the crashed helicopter, through radar equipment. And haphazardly they had flown over those very caves, that the giants resided in.

As Edgar one afternoon, was outside chopping the wood logs in to small pieces, for the open fire. He suddenly looked upwards and noticed the speck, as it were. As the Britannia was so far in the sky. It actually resembled a speck . Edgar felt a stammering sigh. He couldn't quite believe what his eyes saw, but that contraption . that helicopter soared as he yelled loud as his voice travelled. Edgars voice trebled by his huge vocal chords.

As Simon spotted him out of the corner of his eye and then shouted to the pilot. "slow down. We need to land on that, strip of land, by that cave. Please I think I've seen a glimpse of an ancient giant, that the books I have read. Tell me all about them. Please Paul lower us gently . look Florence , he's there. Looks like he's chopping something".

Florence shrieked "yikes it looks like a giant for sure. You know like the legendary ones from our childhood".

Simon replied "yes Florence you're so right. Okay pilot please lower the helicopter . we want to land safely. Don't we?"

As the pilot replied "yes sir. Gently does it. I'll fly this aircraft and hover over that giant. We don't want to startle it too much, do we?"

Simon replied "no way. We must not bring our helicopter to it's attention straight away. Lord knows what he could do to it? I mean we can't establish whether their friendly or not as of yet, as the case maybe".

As peter set about hovering the aircraft lowly and then lower they went and then suddenly Edgar caught sight of it, as he shouted "brothers, aircraft above us. Coming lower and I've never seen one before. His voice travelled . goliath came running outside followed by the others. And then in tow the twins came also racing outside. To view the commotion. As they all clasped eyes on this helicopter . Susan sighed a relief and timidly said "that looks like an aircraft , from England. Look steven it has a Britannia sign across it".

Steven then said "oh yes wow I think we are going to be saved ".

As Edgar whispered "be alert we have visitors no doubt. Humans like yourselves. Let's find out who they are exactly. Shall we?"

Agatha replied "well let us see exactly who they really are. And what they, want from us, shall we?"

Edgar replied "I hope they're not menacing and only bring good will. Remember our land is sacred to us. And we are of friendly intentions. And these strangers, could be cruel no doubt. But I have my suspicions that , they have something to do with the twins, no doubt".

As the aircraft finally landed on the strip of land. Flown carefully by the pilot. The giants proceeded towards it , with interest . for they had to be ever so cautious in the event. As the giants stood adjacent to Simon and Florence and also peter. They stood their in pure amazement. As Edgar then said "hello, so you all are who exactly?"

"what brings you to our land then?"

Simon replied "we were searching for our lost relatives. Two children and two adults. I see the children but what about their parents. Have you seem them?"

As soon as he said this Susan and Steven came forward and clasped eyes on uncle Simon. Susan started sobbing relentlessly and then this emotion set off steven with his teary eyes. The water works were prevalent. As Simon viewed them both. It made his heart sink. And aunt Florence's heart sunk also. As Simon then said "hush don't cry Susan , steven we're here now. Aren't we. Where's your mum and dad".

Susan replied tearfully and wiping her eye, with her right palm of her hand "they're gone uncle. They died in the helicopter crash".

Uncle Simon felt a lump in his throat, as he became quite anguished and Aunt Florence felt a quiver of anguish also. Raw and moved. And then after some moments Susan began to regain her composure. Edgar intervened by saying "we've looked after the twins, quite well enough , thankyou. So they will not be going anywhere . if that is what your thinking?"

Simon grimaced and then calmly said "we are distraught to say the least . we've been searching for the twins, for in fact months and now we've found them. We will ask them personally if they, wish to return to England, with us. That's all".

Edgar replied "well that's a good idea. Best choice. Let them decide their fate".

Susan then said in the midst of the conversation "I'd like to stay with the giants, if I can. After all . they've been amazing and kind towards us both, uncle. I'm not just saying this for the sake of it. I really mean this. Hand on heart".

Uncle Simon replied "and as for you steven. What do you really want to do?"

Steven replied unsure and timidly "I too want to stay with the giants. They're awesome and now our favourite friends. They protect us from trolls and polar bears you know".

Simon then said "polar bears, trolls, where are they? Were they ferocious and threatening. Guys you can't stay here. Not even these giants having you under their wings. Their protection seems not enough".

Goliath interrupted and said "excuse me , but we've done good by them so far. And will continue to do so, but if you think it's the best for them to follow you. You are the actual relatives, after all".

As Susan frowningly said " the giants uncle are our dear friends, they have been amazing in their care, for us ".

As Susan stood there , with a great worry . undecisive was she, as steven felt uncertain of accompanying their natural family to England, also. As Florence then asked "how are you both feeling, with this . take your time. Decisions cannot be made on the spot". As Florence said these words. Giants land shook. A tremor could be felt. Right under all of their feet. As the earth almost jolted. As the giants gasped and the human visitors gasped and the twins became, so frightened, but the quake was only minor and it had passed as quickly as it came ! goliath huddled the children to safety and then said "shall we go inside. It should be safe to do so. And speak about our next tactic. I think it is better this way".

Simon replied "let's go inside and think of the best plan going forward". As they all proceeded inside the cave. Still shaken by the tremors in it's wake. But away from peering eyes as they proceeded inside. And then eventually all sat by that stone table. As Agatha said "well we should ask the twins again if they are ready to depart. I know we have overstayed our welcome". As Agatha giggled to herself. She then asked further " Marley , guys we need to leave ourselves and imminently as our home , could be ransacked by those bears, ask we speak. If it's okay with you goliath . can we leave now with all of your blessings ?"

Goliath and his brothers collectively agreed , that Marley and his family , were ready to return home so they had given their blessings. Although the visiting giants from the south . surely would be missed, they had been their rock and formidable in their partaking of the fight and obstruction against the wicked polar bears, no doubt. As the conversations at the table ended in a sense and became stale. Marley and his clan , would have to return home in the event.

Night fell as the sky turned from a crimson white to an oyster black. As the giants packed their belongings eager to return home. as Agatha said to Marley "they've been so nice to us. You know gone above and beyond. I hate to leave them like this. After all , they have met those children and now their uncle and aunt and I bet that felt both nervous and astonishing. And they were very honoured like us to be here in the east lands. "

They all slept heavily that night and the next morning Marley and Agatha and their clan proceeded towards the mouth of the cave, to say their final farewells. Met by Goliath and Edgar and lurch, as Marley said "well fellow giants it was, a honour to fight by your side. Although we didn't anticipate a battle erupting, but all the more. We will meet again. Now that we know each other more. You are all welcome to visit us in the south , at anytime dearest brothers".

Goliath replied "well I appreciate your kindest words of course we will frequent your place. Some time in the not too distant future. Take care of yourselves ".

As they made their farewell gestures. The visiting giants fled, with great speed and hefty stomping across the lush green lands. Thus only their happy memories and different predicaments, would have their own place now , and that of the future no doubt.

As the giants returned inside the cave, they all reflected , but the serious situation was even more now prominent , with Susan and steven's departure and more to the point their welfare. As they belonged to the giants in a sense. Built up trust factor ensued .

As they all sat by the oval stone table once more. Goliath posed the question to the children . who were a tad more fresher as he said "Susan and steven have you decided where you wish to belong, with us or with your aunt and uncle ?"

Susan worryingly said "well we love you guys more than you know and you all have been good to us. We've had an adventure of a lifetime. Like no other. But I've talked this through with steven and he agrees. We'd like to return to home now, England. "

Goliath replied surprised "we'll miss you two dreadfully, but you must part with us, for our lands are not of sleeping giants, but chaos, you know. Don't forget us ever, promise us this ".

Susan replied emotionally and sully with a withering tone "I promise never, have we met such lovely giants as you all and never will we forget you, never ".

Uncle Simon and Aunt Florence, were besides themselves with joy on hearing their verdict and decision and full of joy. Sprang to mind. They didn't envisage such a quick change of heart and maybe the twins, could resettle. After leaving a nomadic life so far on these ancient shores!

As the departure dawned upon the children day by day. It was time for them finally to leave giants land, for good. As on one afternoon. Susan and steven were ready. Alongside their aunt and uncle, for the trip of their lifetime. The giants would, be by their side, outside the cave in the open air. As the children's eyes met their gaze. The three giants shed giant tears, which in turn made the children emotional beyond words . as goliath , Edgar and lurch waved them on. Aunt Florence and uncle Stuart vacated and proceeded towards their pilot. Who was famished. He had stayed at the cave, but wasn't used to deer meat and wild berries the size of golf balls.

As he then ushered all four passengers onboard the Britannia helicopter. Susan carefully stepped on the metal step rung, as she was hoisted by the helping hand of the pilot in to the helicopter. As then the others boarded the Britannia also.

The three giants paused and looked intently at Susan and Steven. As they, appeared seated on the back seats of the helicopter. As the helicopter then propelled and it's wings outstretched and the engine motor whirred and spun. Then it took to the air. Fully now in flight. As the giants sighed as Edgar then said with their necks cranked looking upwards at them "brothers this could be the last time. We ever see the children. I don't think they'll come this way again. "

Goliath replied "that is true brother , but everything must turn out good for them. For they were beautiful souls and I will never forget the friendship we forged with them. Sometimes I suppose they are better settled on their own territory. You know brothers . you know ours is treacherous . no doubt cruel bear is always lurking. We'll be back to destroy his clan. "

Edgar replied pensively "yes he is, but strength in numbers and unity is far greater , but wisdom is the ultimate weapon, that we possess . remember that brothers".

As lurch and goliath nodded in agreement, with a new smile etched on their faces, that day was sombre and they observed further of their past endeavours, with the twins alongside them.

Meanwhile Susan and steven alongside their maternal uncle and aunt, were heading for the historic England, with a little apprehension. As Susan said "it's a little scary uncle for us. For we do not know what to expect. What reaction we'll have from the elders and I'm scared to go back to school now".

Uncle Susan replied "now, now little one. Susan calm yourself down. Just know this, everything will work out. It always does. Don't think too much and dwell on the loss of your parents. We are here to take care of you both, remember that".

Susan looked sully at uncle Simon and then half smiled and then said "uncle Simon but I still fear for steven he's younger then me and a lot more sensitive".

Uncle Simon turned to steven and said "young man and you two do not have to worry. Your part of my family, you know that right?"

Steven replied shirk "yes uncle I believe you . I honestly do ".

The pilot quietly interrupted them as he said "quiet you all I'm trying to concentrate".

As he flew the helicopter with precision towards their rightful home. in Berkshire. In the town called 'Newbury'. England was current. A country , which was relatively larger than their ancient island of giants land. In comparison , of course. The helicopter flew many hundreds of miles towards Newbury in the event. As Uncle Simon and auntie Florence, were beaming, with delight, that they all could be in Newbury some time soon !

After a long haul flight. The pilot flew in to Brimpton airfield, in reading , with permission from the air control room. As he landed fairly softly on the strip. There they, were met by the airfield staff. And especially by a chap named Grant a long serving chief officer as he said to the pilot "so you found the children that were missing for so long, but what about their parents then?"

Susan nudged the pilot as she whispered in his ear" don't tell him anything more. You never saw them. You just don't know anything more, okay?"

Surprisingly far sensible. Susan proved to be far wiser beyond her years. As the pilot turned to Grant and said " erm, they were no where to be seen and that's all I know".

Mr grant didn't quiz them any further, then he had to. As he was only briefed by the pilot, on their departure, with little or no information. As Uncle Simon said to the twins "are you both ready to go home now?"

Susan spoke so softly as she said "yes, uncle we are tired please take us home. as he said goodbye to the pilot. And a taxi was waiting no doubt.

And then they made their way to a parked booked taxi black cab . it's sign flashed as the neon light flickered. Susan and steven got in to the back seats of the taxi, as their aunt climbed in to the passenger seat. Seatbelts, were fastened and then they set off for home. as Susan then said to her uncle "we are going straight home aren't we?"

Her uncle Simon replied "yes, that's where were going , but first we'll stop at the services, for some refreshments".

Steven then interrupted as he said "uncle, I don't want to stop for any breaks. Please can we go straight home. I'm feeling sick and wheezy". Steven sounded a mild frustrated one could say at this point. His uncle replied concerningly "okay guys. I'll ask the taxi driver to take us home soon, then". It could be nerves , that were setting in. as the frightened expression showed on their face. For they were not to know how life could , be again in a more normal environment, but they would have to wait to find out. Perhaps , they would settle in being still young and less intuitive. After all they had their maternal Aunt and uncle to fall back on. And this was more omissible , for them no doubt!

As Simon then said "taxi driver can you run us home . they've changed their minds."

As the taxi proceeded . it was then the twins, were more reassured , that they were enroute towards their new dwelling, no doubt. But thoughts still lingered , within their minds about their reception however and if they would have any nearest relatives or visitors to receive them. In the first instance they still had reoccurring images of their parents faces emerged before them. And that was the only thing , they could really see , for now.

The hours past as the motor way was not so congested it was after all twelve midday , but the weather was moderately mild as the cab fleeted towards reading . as the twins nodded of a few times, throughout the journey. And as their uncle and aunt chatted away. They finally reached their destination 1 Neville drive. Their neighbourhood was on the whole quiet and all you would see, were a few cats, sat on the random stone wall, that belonged to Mrs Ratchet . the old lady, that lived opposite them . she lived alone. Who was in fact a spinster. She never got married, nor it seemed she was ever inclined to do so, as it stood !

As the taxi screeched to a halt. Susan and steven got of the cab first. Followed by Simon and Florence in haste. As Susan and steven were, lead towards their front door of their home. as uncle Simon said "well this is it. Do you guys want to see what's on the inside . well wait and see?"

As aunt Florence followed rapidly , in tow with the twins. As the twins absorbed everything taking in views of the superb paintwork on the walls. The high ceilings then caught their eye. The dwelling was a modest four bedroom layout. At the same time definitely above average, the twins thought to themselves. Simon and Florence had always been comfortable with their surroundings, for many years now . and just wanting and waiting to retire from their tedious jobs. At the cotton fabric factory. Where aunt Florence was, a seamstress and uncle Simon was a dedicated supervisor to his team of many.

As Susan stepped further afoot in to the hallway. She noticed antique portraits of famous people, but being young couldn't grasp who they actually were, or represented a time or era. Steven was none the wiser. As they casually walked further towards the sitting room. Susan noticed the sofa randomly placed. And besides it . the giant coffee table. A crystal piece sat upon it. The room was, spacious as steven then decided to walk further in to the kitchen area and noticed a big American fridge.

He had the inclination to open it. Which he did and took out a can of Pepsi and he gulped it down straight away. Susan felt shy and felt reluctant to do the same, for now. As Susan watched from afar and rightfully so was still adjusting to her new settings in the house it seemed. And compared to the cave , they both frequented . not so long ago. A worlds apart it seemed.

As Susan remarks " manners steven. You've not asked for that, drink . and there you go helping yourself. "

Steven replies bemused " well Susie. If you were as thirsty ass I was, you would sample the ocean even". Susan then replies "well you can wait can't you until at least the elders offer a drink to you, but you have no shame. We're in a sense strangers to them. As we've heard about them, but never really remember much about them and how can we fully trust them both?"

Steven frowns as he expresses his concern, that Susan is not joking and not putting doubt in his mind for the sake of it. But the whole situation at hand was now, somewhat confusing and the apprehension on the surface was prevalent. As uncle Simon asks as he said " so you like what you've seen of our place kids?"

Susan replies " so and so". Steven is pushed to reply "yep, it's nice uncle".

As they all wander from room to room. The twins get a feel of the place. More acquainted with their surroundings, to be exact. As they are shown to their separate bedrooms. Firstly Susan stumbles upon hers. A lilac painted smaller bedroom, as she gasps" too small really. Only enough room for a bed I suppose. It'll do ".

Susan notices through the sash window a south facing garden, which floods her bedroom with much sunlight. Susan is more happier with this arrangement now. Susan then settles in to her new bedroom as she puts her satchel down and steven proceeds towards his slightly larger bedroom and then Simon asks him "steven what do you make of your bedroom then?"

Steven replies " uncle I like it very much. It's far better then cave ceilings with dust falling or giant spiders scuttling around the cave".

Uncle Simon felt reassured , that the children would come to enjoy their indefinite stay, but schooling would be high on the agenda, for them both. Clearly their dear next of kin would surmise and discuss no doubt !

Of course their uncle would, have to play it cool. Make the twins feel at home. as if everything was now near normal, but it couldn't be further from the truth. Things had changed, dramatically. For all of them. The twins would have to readjust to their new surroundings even If their nerves, were brittle , no doubt.

After the twins were shown their bedrooms. They all went downstairs and became familiar with the other quarters of their domain. Susan looked intrusively at everything . scanning extensively the cupboards in the kitchen. Including the kitchen clock, which had rather large hands that displayed the time. As the pendulum rocked to and frow . her eyes felt hypnotised for a brief second as steven then nudged her to gain her attention as he said concerningly "your eyes, Susan their fixed . what are you seeing and what are you thinking?"

Susan regained her composure and casually replied "well for a minute my eyes felt funny and I felt a flush, but I'm here with you trying to suss this place out".

"oh okay ", said steven as both their gaze was then transfixed on the box of chocolates sat on the worktop, as steven said "uncle Simon may we have some chocolates please?".

Uncle Simon replied "of course fill your boots. I mean were not going to eat it all by ourselves".

Susan lunged forward and held the box of chocolates. Almost studying them. As did steven, as they both took some wrapped chocolates, from the box. As Susan swallowed it down, she said "ah tasty never tasted it for a long while".

Steven said also "nice , I'll have a bit more if that's okay uncle ?"

Uncle Simon replied "but don't eat too much as you'll be snacking. We'll have our main meal soon. A leg of lamb and mint sauce. Juicy eh?"

Aunt Florence said "who's cooking me ? I can't cook for the life of me, but we'll make exceptions. Susan and steven especially for you. I'm going to cook spaghetti Bolognese . you both in ?"

Susan replied " that's fine. I'm all for spaghetti Bolognese".

Steven nervously said "whatever my sisters having, suits me, thankyou".

Uncle Simon said "well that's settled . we are all having spaghetti Bolognese, then".

As aunt Florence got busy boiling the pasta and then the meat was cooked as she added spice and tomato paste. It should resemble spaghetti Bolognese, as Florence muttered to herself "well that was easy then. I've still got it, haven't I ?"

The saucepan hissed as did the mince meat on the boil. Eventually they, all sat down at the table. Neat placement mats were placed on the work top surface, as Florence brought the delicious food. Susan and steven , were seated as it so happens and so was uncle Simon . as there was a slight pause initially . conversation was to a limit. Until the silence was broken, as uncle Simon asked inquisitively "so Susan and steven . I don't know how to express my sorrow on your loss, but it was my brother and his wife , that perished in that, carnage. We nearly never found you or that strange land. It was as if we were meant to stumble upon giants land somehow and rescue you both, but it looked like the three giants found you first. They never harmed you in any way did they?"

Susan replied nervously "they were amazing and brave uncle and saved us from bedlum and more so saving us from bad bears". As Susan uttered these words for a brief moment. She fell almost in to a trance, as she envisaged Lurch , Edgar and goliath with them. As her mind played tricks on her and then the image flickered out. Just like a candle flame.

Susan regained her composure as she then said "uncle so are we going to stay with you forever and forever or this is a temporary thing?"

Uncle Simon replied "as long as you both wish to stay with us. There's no hardship on us. After all our home is now full of happiness , with your presence , but you know that schooling. I mean your education means so much to us and I hope you too feel the same. You've missed out so much for so long, you know".

Steven replied apprehensively "we know this , but I really miss mum and dad a great deal". As he said these words he broke down with tears. Once again he was in fact overcome with grief. Uncle Simon let his emotions fester as he knew , that the twins were awfully upset. And it could take months if not years for their real pain, that was manifested within them to lessen.

As they finished their meal and toiled the hours of the evening. Nightfall became apparent as the twins yearned for their beds. Sleep overtook them. As they went to their separate bedrooms. Overlooked by their aunt Florence and uncle Simon who themselves were overridden with tiredness somewhat.

CHAPTER SIX- NEAR NORMAL LIFE

The morning brought with illustrious natural light which beamed through their open windows, as the pane of glass shimmered . aunt Florence called loudly for the twins to come downstairs as breakfast was served up. As she always rustled up a medley of fried mushrooms, scrambled eggs. And well toasted bread. With a dollop of butter as they all sat down together uncle Simon mentioned applying for a befitting school. For them to attend, but could prove painstaking on the

Outset .

Susan then asked hushed "so do you think you'll find a decent school for us, uncle then heh?"

Uncle Simon replied "well my dear . it is not an overnight thing. We may have to wait weeks for a reply , from one of those schools, but be patient. Something will surface I imagine. It always does". As he further said "my kids went to a comprehensive school and are now doing well in their careers years on now. Your cousins felt the same and had the same set of circumstances that you both do".

Susan then replied "well if it takes weeks. I'll have to revise my text books. Until I'm knowledgeable enough. Do you think uncle . I stand a fair chance ?"

Uncle Simon replied "well you've got no choice then. Although I'm going to give you that, choice. If you say you both don't want to attend any school. I'm happy for this also". Susan then replied "let's just hope as a family , that those letters from your choice of schools turn up, uncle ".

They were all optimistic, that something , would surface. As they convalesced at the table until uncle Simon decided to take them both on a field trip. A grassy open built up area, but had a small pond. Susan felt ecstatic . just to get out of the house and steven felt suffocated in the home and felt obliged to join them for a loiter and to lounge around.

Steven was initially too frightened to venture out at first, but did in the event. As uncle Simon said "well you two . we need to get you out . we will venture not too far. In fact a stones throw away. Within walking distance. So we can identify tadpoles and see the toads leaping by this pond. That should take your mind off things, that way you'll be somewhere different for a few hours. There is also a play area with swings. Just loads of fun, that you can have".

Steven came around to the idea and as for Susan . she was smitten by it. Profoundly so !

As they all walked together in close proximity . aunt Florence decided not to join them, staying behind. For whatever reasons. She had. They reached that area in no time. As Susan and steven fled uncle Simons gaze. And ran towards the pond. As they looked in to it. The reflections of their friends. The three giants, came back at them. But all imaginative, no doubt. The giants were, in fact far away, beyond reach.

And the children were again reconciled on this notion, that there was no way going back, they could not frequent giants land at their own free will, left for now far behind. As they talked amongst themselves, Susan said "steven. You know how tough it's going to be on us. We will have to tackle everything together and school will be different. Our mum will never pack our lunch boxes and our dad will never pick us up from school . I feel helpless, don't you?"

Steven sighed and said "sis, our lives are changing rapidly and I too do not know where to turn".

Susan grimaced . her eyes filled with tears. Her face slightly distraught, as she said "brother it's just us and them. I know I feel , that they want to help us. Uncle Simon has a good heart, but I feel suffocated and what will school be like heh?"

Steven replied urgently " I can't be any worse then our last one. That school was horrible. A nuisance. Don't you think Susan?"

Susan said softly "yeah, it was too much. I didn't fit in. got bullied a lot you know".

With that, they both had their arm in each others and proceeded back home, in tow with their uncle, where the day was drawn out. The light pervaded them both . a slight shadow loomed overhead. Grey clouds formed turned in to darker tone. As they edged nearer to their uncles home. uncle following them in their footsteps. In pursuit.

That late evening as they all reminisced on the days events. As uncle Simon said "well I 'll contact several schools then. I'm sure your suited to one of them, no doubt!"

Susan looked quite surprised as it was on the cards , but out of the blue, maybe just maybe just amongst the conversation. It was spurted out !

Aunt Florence interrupted as she said "what shall we have for dinner kids?"

"I mean we could , do braised steak and mash and peas, doesn't that sound mouth watering and delicious for you both?"

Susan replied politely as always "yes, that would be nice aunt".

Aunt Florence spared no time. As she paced towards the kitchen area. As she set out her pots and trays for their special meal, no doubt.

Meanwhile the twins , were sat around the lounge. Chatting away amongst themselves. As uncle Simon popped out of the house to fetch some much needed groceries. Essentially milk , bread and cheese and not forgetting eggs, that were organic. From their local Tesco metro, which wasn't far away. A few miles if that. It would be a short walk for him. Which he had undertaken a million times before. In a sense.

Finally after some time Aunt Florence had cooked a sumptuous dish of braised steak well done. And not burnt , but carefully cooked and the mash was, light and fluffy. As for the peas , well they resembled hard pellets. But she hoped the children would not fuss too much. And would be back for second helpings. In fact tuck in to their dinner. As naturally the kids were starving once they were at the kitchen table, with their knifes and forks at the ready. This was homely and a rare occasion.

One of the many, they all hoped and more importantly spent together.

Tomorrow would bring a new day. As Susan and steven awoke simultaneously to the sizzling of the pan. As they both got dressed and crept downstairs. Lead by the lovely smell of eggs and hash browns. Their eyes dilated . eagerly awaiting their breakfast. As they entered the kitchen area. Their aunt had just prepared platefuls of food, as she said "sit down please ".

Their uncle was joyous . full of whit and as they both sat down, he then said "I have sent out the applications for you both. Hopefully the same schools. We should find out which ones, if you are successful with. And only then we can plan around you".

Susan felt chuffed and nervous at the same time. So did steven. After all it was a venture . a new playing field, where they both could be tested . or welcomed with open arms. By the successful outcome, would permit the right school. And they would ultimately have to wait and find out.

Most nights Susan and steven would sweat it out. Dreaming of their friends the giants. Such vivid dreams and then they became stronger. As much as if the giants were present in their house. Waking up with cold sweats and palpitations. And then only to find out, that they could pinch themselves. For the stark realisation , was just that. They were not with them now. A distant memory.

One thought could not be erased or become flanked by some myth. No these giants were, no illusion, but as true as the blue colour of their eyes. As true as the sky was blue or sometimes a dull grey on most mornings. And they had been traumatised by the release of adrenalin . the change of setting and most of all. The loss of both parents, no doubt!

A few days passed and the letters of acceptance came flooding through their letterbox. In fact every school , that had been applied for, was a successful outcome. Uncle Simon couldn't wait to share the revelation, with the twins. With eagerness. He was so stoic. So overjoyed with this outcome, that the twins were in fact informed. In the living room. As the letters were placed. One by one on the coffee table. Before them. As Susan picked up several letters of engagement and then studied them consecutively, with little interest as uncle Simon said "lets whittle it down to two schools, east high and clayton comprehensive. We'll attend these two for now. Lets not dwell on the others as such".

Susan nodded silently, but didn't react a great deal. Just sat their thinking all the while. The days flew by. And the final moment came, whereby the twins one morning at around 10 am were dressed for their informal interview. Of course this was on a conditional acceptance pretext and resting solely on their interview .

As uncle Simon seated them both in the car. A blue jeep Cherokee and then he sped off for their appointment, with urgency. Or at least uncle Simon did. The journey to east high school, was not a length as it was within their catchment area. About 3 miles afar. As they reached the school finally. Parking their car outside the zig zag area. Indirectly by the iron gates . Susan sighed . stevens face wretched by the thought of study and then making new friends, acquaintances within this school or the next perhaps, said it all.

As uncle Simon ushered the twins to walk forward towards the reception as the external sign directed them to the rectangular building. It seemed like a modern school , with red bricks. Nothing remarkably fancy. As they, entered they proceeded towards the reception window hatch. And then a warm hearted lady by the name of 'Angela', who in the event conversed with them all as she asked "who are you ?"

Uncle Simon said "we are here for the interview for my niece and nephew". And then turned to the twins and said "don't be nervous. Take everything in your stride. It'll be alright. You'll see you'll impress them. I know you both by now. Word of warning stay quietly confident".

As they all waited . silence almost fell until the headmistress , Mrs Anderson came sweeping across as she said "hello and you must be Mr Simon Rollins. And that must be Susan and steven. Am I right in saying so?"

Simon replied affirmatively "yes, that's us . pleased to meet you in this instance".

Mrs Anderson replied contently "yes and to you too. Please follow me to my office. This is an informal interview by the way. Feel free to ask questions". As they all hurried along the corridor. Finally entering this dense room, with one oak desk, that almost covered half the room space. As they all sat down on cushioned seats, they discussed matters as Mrs Anderson asked "so the children have come from which school? As I believe from their application there was intervals of absence".

Simon replied tediously "well to be honest . there were gaps and we are there guardians, as such, but they have had periods of anxiety, which has now passed . they previously attended 'rock Stanley high school, here in Reading."

Mrs Anderson replied intuitively "oh but that's a shame, but not an issue, as they are youngsters and I stress it is highly recommended by me that, they continue their education and hopefully it can all start right here".

Simon replied excitedly "really, you mean they both are accepted?".

Mrs Anderson replied "yes, yes, they both have been accepted. I mean why wait the process, and exhaust it. you can now fill in the acceptance form. And their health declaration and particulars. It has been a pleasure to meet you all".

As she leaned over and glared at the wall clock and then intermittently said "oh my is that the time. I have a staff meeting at 12.00 lunchtime. Thankyou. Will you find your way out?"

Simon replied "yes, we'll be fine. It's straight down that corridor and we turn left. Is that correct?"

Mrs Anderson replied "yes, that's right. Goodbye".

As they all left the school in a fashioned order, no doubt.

Meanwhile upon giants land. The three audacious giants sat at the grand table, within the cave of theirs. Pondering on their future. A much hostile one now. The discovery of those fierce polar bears and the passed confrontation, was a harsh reality. But more to the point. Their minds were, wondering in the twins direction. As goliath said to his brothers "do you think the children are safe and settled ? what must they be doing now. Oh I miss their company a great deal".

Lurch replied distraughtly "me too, it was as if their presence enlightened us and now there's so much silence."

Goliath then said "well that's true, but I feel their finding their feet. Maybe more settled within their maternal family. By their side and if that is the case. We should be happier in memory of them".

"but brother what if those polar bears gain ground again. With a larger army of bears. Will we be able to withstand them? I just don't know this myself", said lurch.

Goliath replied "we will have to cross that bridge again, no doubt , but with everything probability will outweigh the odds, eventually brother".

They all sat their until lines formed on their giant foreheads. The future was far untold for them all for now!

Meanwhile uncle Simon sat in the living room going over everything strenuously . decisions and too many if that. "what would be the best out of the two schools". He thought. He then decided to choose the former . in fact Mrs Anderson , had too impressed him with her ethics and explanation on their chosen school, that he had no alternative , but to choose hers. So he informed the twins right away. Of course , they felt apprehensive of the acceptance as Susan said "uncle thankyou for doing all the hard work and getting us a place at this school. Steven show your appreciation, then".

Steven said "thanks uncle for your help. You know we couldn't do this without you".

Uncle Simon beamed with delight. As he replied " well it's nothing . we've got to get you both schooling and an education, right? Your knowledge building is second to none. It's nothing really. I haven't done anything exceptional".

Susan and steven , would be starting their new school in the coming days and they both, had to do a lot of shopping for stationery , paper writing pads. Although this would be left out for their aunt Florence . no doubt. She would fetch the necessary stationery . so they could be well equipped. A few days elapsed and the morning soon came, with it's radiance. The jitterbugs were about the twins. As they prepared to tuck in to breakfast at the table.

But Susan was apprehensive as she said to steven" how are you feeling steven . I'm nervous as much as you probably?"

Steven shrugged his shoulders and replied "sis, I feel nervous you know. It's a new school after all. And what will happen next I wonder?"

Susan pensively replied "we'll try to impress them. Me and you okay. We have to fit in remember".

As they continued to munch on half eaten shreddies. It suddenly struck 9am. The big clock on the wall was wailing. In a sense as they, both looked upwards and then uncle Simon said "well guys it 's time. I'll take you both to your new school then". As Susan and Steven approached their uncles parked jeep Cherokee, which was an old thing. A rusty machine in a sense. But it still moved considerably well for its age.

As uncle Simon gestured them to get in . as he held the door open for them. Susan and steven get inside, with mixed emotions. Still unsteady with the realisation, that they are actually attending school again.

The journey , was not too long. As the car hummed and then after half an hour jolted to a hault . outside the mighty iron gates. Which were predominant as they all exited the car. They followed each other towards the reception area. Passing the landscaped garden, along the way. As they reached the reception. The kind lady named Angela said "hello children so I do hope you enjoy your term at this school. And if there is anything we can help you with. Don't be afraid to ask, okay ?"

Susan thought "she looks kind and helpful". Steven was thinking the same thoughts, no doubt. As Simon gave both of them a hug. And requested them to wait by those iron gates, upon the end of their school day, which was around 3.30 pm, which they both coincidently understood.

As Susan searched for her timetable, by putting her hand in her trouser pocket and retrieving the document. She discovered she was in class 13b and steven was in a lower class of 12hc and of course separate lessons. Susan had English, which she previously excelled in. she breathed a sigh of relief. As she then proceeded towards her classroom and steven towards his. Susan felt , that it could be daunting to befriend anyone. Even start a conversation, could prove complicated. But she expected to break the ice somehow.

She sincerely hoped her teacher Mr fisher would be helpful and introduce her to the rest of her class. As Susan rambled through the corridor. Eventually reaching the room of 13b. she nervously pushed the door open. And viewed her teacher for the first time and then in turn the rest of classmates. As she remained quiet, and ever so timid and then Mr Fisher said "hello class. Susan has joined us. Please welcome her and most of all please try to get along".

Susan felt that, this maybe forced upon them all , but felt that she could almost fit in. eventually in the long run. As Susan took to her seat. She unknowingly sat by a girl named 'Ellie '. Who initially smiled at her. Susan beamed and thought "at least she may like me. Maybe we can be friends. I'd like that very much".

As they both then listened attentively to Mr fisher going over classwork and small assignments out loud. Although the topic was on the subject of poetry including Macbeth and pressing on William words worth and Othello . Susan felt this lesson to be drawn out. She became somewhat tired and agitated, then she yawned as Ellie said chuckling " you need to go to bed , more often girl".

Susan grinned and then replied " late nights I suppose. How are you . is it Ellie ?"

Ellie replied "yes, but how do you know this?"

Susan replied "it says on the top of your work folder, that's how I guessed ".

Ellie smirked and then said "I hope we can be close friends and maybe hang out together. Only if that's alright with you?"

Susan replied "I'm more then happy Ellie".

As they chatted Mr fisher heard them both gossiping and interrupted them by walking over to their desk and said "excuse me girls, but if you don't know this is a lesson and if you don't mind I would like you both to take my lesson seriously". Mr fisher was generally a soft person, but he didn't take to talkative pupils, whilst in lesson period , of course.

Susan and Ellie struck up a tight friendship over the oncoming days, but as for steven . he was still reluctant to do so. Falling behind, with regards to friendship building, but he was just a tad shy and for the moment, couldn't break out of his shell in a sense.

School was a bore, for him and he struggled seldomly in his science lesson. As they were structured and he couldn't quite grasp the principle of the modules, especially biology , which tested him academically. Mr Williams would, ask him if he needed help often. But even then steven would shy away. Of course this would have a detrimental effect on his time and energy, which he needed in his young life, so badly.

One morning as steven was in his maths lesson and around 10am. He was sat by his desk and all of a sudden . he lamented . it could have been introvert emotions , that surfaced , or he may have felt overwhelmed with the strain of his new environment and on top of things, the absence of his doting parents, which still in the course of it all, was terribly daunting on him. Mr Williams rushed over, with agonising concern, that was amounting as he asked "steven whatever is the matter with you?"

Steven couldn't hold on to his emotions any longer as he spouted out "it's you know that I miss my real parents. They're gone. No more. I don't know how to cope. Sometimes I see them as much as if I can hold them, but thanks for caring".

Mr Williams was dumbfounded as he further said "well if you need counselling . there is a service that we freely provide at our school. You can get help , with your angst, by trained professionals, but can I have a word with your next of kin, first. Or your legal guardians?"

Steven replied tearfully "no, no I don't want to make a fuss. I'll be alright in a minute or two sir".

As steven wiped his tears from his eyes. The class was, still in procession, but no one could have heard their conversation, bearing in mind that, steven was in fact sat at the back of the class, on this instance.

As the days unfolded good and bad. Susan settled in far better than steven . she became more confident in her approach to studies and on the whole towards other classmates. Blending in well in a sense. Flourishing with every given moment. And as for steven he lagged behind in the stakes. From the offset, as it were.

Susan and steven on one particular occasion , were sat on their comfy beds. Dreaming up images of their encounters with those audacious giants. And it seemed to prop up in Susan's head. To fetch her books for revision . as she plunged her hand in to her satchel. She felt something sturdy and jagged. And something rather heavy. As she grabbed at it, curiously and retrieved it and held it firmly. As she then noticed it to be a piece of rock. And etched upon it's rough surface, was engraved upon it the three giants names, as she sighed and couldn't believe her eyes as she muttered " oh my God what is this ? I can't believe they've put a remembrance rock in my satchel. "

She felt elated. She felt tingly and almost caught in a image, that she was stood right there in giants land. As she glanced through her bedroom window. She then saw a kestrel, that resembled aerial as she stood in pure amazement. She thought to herself "had it followed them to their safety." Giants land lived within her, as she would affirm, no doubt.

Meanwhile the next morning . Susan and steven awoke to the sounds of the finches, that chirped away. In the trees and the pleasant sound travelled through their open windows. As Susan thought whilst reclined on her bed "I know that aerial and the other kestrels, that flew past our window last night, but I can't be sure. I'm here in England and how did it find us?"

Steven thought avidly too, but more blotched was his dream as those same thoughts entered his young mind, "I really wish it was those kestrels and they could tell us of the wellbeing of the giants. If only I could reach them somehow".

Both children felt helpless in their situation. One being permanently at their uncles house and secondly, being far away from the giants who showed them pure affection and above all utmost protection, but they knew , that their lives would never be the same. It had practically changed forever. And they still hoped and prayed for the reunion with their friends the giants. And wished for that day to come sooner. If it was ever again possible.

CHAPTER SEVEN- THE GIANTS REMINISCE

Meanwhile on giants land . Time had not moved on it seemed. Everything stood still. As Edgar , lurch and goliath, were reminiscing on the departure of the twins. They were somewhat bereft of Susan and Steven and coming to terms, with the huge void in their life. Left after they both had returned to England, no doubt.

As goliath said " brothers there's a faint chill in the air and I feel down . I'm missing them so. How about you all? Do you feel the same?2

Lurch replied "me too. It is as if they were gold. The many pleasant moments. We all spent together and now we have to reflect. It's just not fair you know".

Goliath then said in turn" I just feel , that their uncle Simon and aunt Florence appear to be good souls, and they will take good care of the twins, but we live in almost two worlds. We don't know much about theirs do we brothers?" as goliath said these words. Aerial the kestrel came swooping in to the cave and cawed as he said , whilst landing on his feet" I've seen them both. They're safe. I believe they both saw me. Although I think , they might be thinking this also".

They all seemed to become more at ease, as goliath then said whilst they were all sat by the stone table "I'm still fearful of the repercussions, from those polar bears. They are still at large and probably wanting revenge. Shall we wait and watch or venture in to their territory and destroy them all. At once and for all, brothers?"

Lurch and Edgar unanimously replied "no, we'll wait and watch. We have beaten them before and we shall do so again. If they have the nerve to come close even towards our territory, again".

Lurch then said "but I feel they will and we need to revaluate the situation, because remember our friends Marley and Agatha and their offspring are not here to help us. This time. If that happens, but still we possess the indomitable spirit brothers to stand victorious again, no doubt".

They all beat their heels, collectively in agreement. They could withstand any onslaught and were a force to be reckoned with. On all fronts, indeed !

Meanwhile little known to the giants. The forests raged with a natural fire, from sudden dry heat, that propelled the flames higher and higher in to the skyline. As the fire raged out of control. All the tiny creatures fled their burrows , their nests and most of all. Their habitat. In to the open ground frantically. As aerial brought news to the giants, quickly as he said "Edgar, goliath, lurch brothers come quickly and see the fires , that rage out of control in those forests".

As the next morning soon came and at the crack of dawn. Goliath packed some essentials and fastened a sword to his waistline and a club , that dangled close. As he set off towards the wise one. Hoping for a resolution no doubt..

Hours expired and finally goliath was at the lair of the wise one. "hello , hello and called loudly for the wise one. hello , hello , he said "as he further said shrieked are you there? The wise one hollered back " I'm coming don't you worry about yourself".

Goliath replied "oh okay it's just that I cant see you, that's all".

The wise one replied "I'm not that quick on my feet these days. Oh there you are goliath . hello friend. How can I be of assistance to you?"

Goliath replied " well the fire is raging and it's spreading everywhere . so I've been told by Aerial as a reliable source. Could you possibly conjure a spell to douse the flames. As they are out of control and further to this. The poor animals and trees are becoming burnt outright . and those trees are our livelihood".

The wise one replied worried as he said "don't worry your pretty head. Goliath I have just the spell , which will bring forth almost a rain shower, that should prove worthy . and extinguish those wretched flames. Leave it to me, as goliath waited inside his cave. The wise one retrieved his book of magic named Alikazar'. As he then fumbled through as his fingers turned over page by page. Until he came across the page, with the scripture and to be deemed as a perfect spell, read it out, as he said :

"ahh this one should do the trick, ". As he further read alikazar,

RAINWATER . RAINWATER . POUR UPON THE FORESTS GREEN. LIKE FLOOD WATER.

NONE LIKE WE'VE EVER SEEN ".

The wise one said to goliath pleased with himself " it's done . tell aerial to fly over the affected area of the forest and see for himself, but don't you goliath and your brothers approach it. The fire is probably still simmering and hot. So stay well back. Heed my words. You'll know when the fire is completely put out. "

As promised goliath returned to his cave safely, without any mishaps or hiccups. For he knew he should listen carefully to the wisdom of the wise one. eventually aerial swooped towards their cave and again perched on the flat edge of the ridge stone. And alarmingly cawed until the rest of the giants raced outside and then aerial said "the fire is extinguished . can you believe it. I watched in flight. As the clouds were forming and then a mighty amount of rainfall fell. Until it doused all of the raging fire to disperse it. "

Goliath and the others knew that the wise one, had cast a magnificent spell, which brought forth the rains, with tremendous effect. And were all truly thankful to him for this in the event.

Meanwhile the giants being Edgar, goliath and lurch were sat by the mouth of the cave looking upwards at the sky a few days later. And noticing the clouds as they floated mesmerically and they all thought collectively "if only life wouldn't pass us by. If only those children could join us for one last meal. Even one last expedition and to think, that we giants would ever encounter humans on giants land. This is a miracle in itself".

The brothers looked at each other as goliath said to them all "if you were all thinking what I was thinking . well I'm feeling those emotions, but thank our heavenly stars. Their out of danger . the children are that is and we are not out of the woods. Far from it, brothers . we live and breath this air. Our home , our land. So let's keep it that way, shall we?"

And no doubt the brothers which were preceded by a little assurance of peace now, would last some time. For the battle with the polar bear king Zarnos and his clan, would be an ongoing bout. Also a defining moments, that would fester in the giants life, no doubt !

CHAPTER EIGHT - THE PLAGUE

Giants land would, never be the same. As a great plague engulfed it. Out of the blue. As all the wildflowers , trees and wildlife began to wither and disintegrate . a great devastating demise was dawning upon them all.

As the giants fumbled in the dark . in their cave. Huddled together. Only safe in their dwelling for now. It had spread north , east , south and west. Albeit in all directions. Even the gigantic polar bears were falling to their death at a rapid rate. And as for the trolls, they were facing their demise at the same rate. One would think , where had this plague come from . after all giants land , had never fallen foul of this trauma, that was unleashed upon them. This disease to befall them. All that exhibited it.

A tremendous worry was ensued by all, no doubt. The plague had started from apparently an unknown source and maybe something sparked it as the giants began questioning everything "was the water outside safe to drink? Was the wild berries even fit for consumption and more importantly most of the wild deer fell to their rapid decline. "

As goliath said to his brothers " I'm terrified that there's no end in sight. This plague is brutal. I've never seen anything like it. Our trees are dwindling in numbers . the animals are rancid and the plants and flowers are contaminated . what do we do now?"

Lurch replied "goliath . we need to do something fast. Cover your mouth with some cloth and the rest of your body. And you too Edgar . we mustn't let this horrible plague reach us, okay ?"

Edgar said "okay but it's going to be difficult . we cannot leave our cave. Not for one minute. I mean I can't breath brothers. It's all too much".

Goliath replied "brothers contain yourself. For we do not know from one minute to the next of our survival. We must become the few that remained untouched by this unwanted ravaging disease and please brothers stay calm, for all our sakes !"

They were all bereft of their sanity . going out of their minds, with growing worry, no doubt. As the plague was spreading faster and faster outside. In the great expanse and then Edgar said thinking on his feet" brothers I think we should at least consult the great wise one. maybe he has not been infected unlike most of the rest on giants land. We can only hope this to be the case".

Goliath replied speedily "good thinking . I believe that the wise one would be immune, with his vast knowledge on all matters and events and he could help us all that dwell on giants land, even our enemies at that".

Lurch and Edgar thought to themselves "did we just hear goliath say and even those polar bears need to exist. What's happening to him. Maybe it's his softer vulnerable side creeping in. we can only imagine".

The world outside was daunting enough and now this plague, that drifted from one place to another , had catapulted giant land in to darkness. A culmination of distress and disorder, but was it manmade or natural , that the giants didn't have an inkling of!

Which questioned their next tactic. How would they venture outside with the plague brewing even stronger. And I suppose it was fair to say, that even the kestrels especially aerial would be affected by this adverse disease no doubt. So who could, they count on, but the wise one or else wait it out or cover themselves from head to toe. And so that is what they did briefly. Goliath grabbed an overall . that was hefty in size and slung it over himself. Edgar and lurch watched as they deemed it the only material garment, that was fit for its purpose. And then goliath wrapped cloth across his face, with pieces cut out for his eyes not to be covered in any instance.

He was going to brave it. Against all odds. He had to make that journey to the wise one. who could still be alive and kicking or worst fate, gone too like the forests , from existence. Alike many wildflower, animals and other beings in truth !

As Edgar made a light gesture and poked fun at him to lighten the mood. , as he said "goliath you look like a giant sack of potatoes . honestly but good luck brother, we'll need it".

Lurch replied pensively and in deep thought "yes, brother keep safe. And don't stop anywhere or touch anything . just keep on moving and stay on your feet. Go like the winds and bring us some good news, please".

Goliath looked tentatively at them, as his expression showed , that of a broken giant. Distraught to the core and not knowing of their outcome. Their survival depended on a quick solution to this raging plague . no doubt. As goliath set off in his tracks. Leaving his cave and his brothers far behind. Beginning that journey of all proportions. That journey which was in a sense life dependent, after all.

As goliath cautiously scanned his surroundings. He noticed everything withering and dying around him, which saddened him greatly . to view his world crashing around him. And in the realisation , that giants land, could fold at any given instance, was a stark realisation and inconceivable to him and his brothers in the event.

He noticed the trees, were dwindling fast. The sky resembled a grey parched horizon and much different shade to that which he was accustomed with. As goliath paced faster and faster as his legs cowered almost , but still carried him from one corner to the other . only stopping once for a brief rest . in the course of things. He finally neared the wise ones lair. He could breath a little easier, one hoped. But he was not out of the woods , yet. This journey sapped his energy .

The great relief covered his being, that he could be present in the company of the wise one any time soon. As he then paused and then walked further towards the mouth of the cave. He called , as he always did to the wise one, as he shouted "hello, hello, anyone there ? oh wise one. please call back to acknowledge me".

As the wise one suddenly hollered "yes I am here, is that you goliath?" why have you come here . you know there's danger out there, with that horrible plague billowing".

Goliath replied shakily "I know wise one. thank heavens you're still with us. I need to ask you. Can you repair this damage. Fix the wildlife, the wildflowers and restore vital health upon giants land again ?"

As the wise one said with a croaking voice "well goliath . I'm not in perfect shape myself. I however envisaged this chaos and demise of giants land, but couldn't be sure this would all happen the way it did. I'm not a genius and the future . I cannot capture it completely. Not all events in truth. Are under my jurisdiction. But I may have a spell, that breaks and removes this plague. Or whatever it is. Come inside quickly. We have no time to waste".

As goliath entered his grand cave. The wise one appeared with a more greyish beard. As if he had grown much older in a short period of time. As they both proceeded towards, that great spell book. As the wise one then held it tightly and opened the book. As the pages flicked over and his finger pressed hard on page 125. The grand spell of all spells. It spoke volumes, as it said "read me will you?"

As the wise one, whilst goliath watched in anticipation and intently. As the magical words were read as follows ;

GIANTS LAND. GIANTS LAND LET THE CURSE. THE PLAGUE

GO AWAY AND BE BROKEN.

LET THE MAGIC BE AWOKEN. A TOKEN !

At first silence intervened as giants land wreaked in chaos and then goliath and the wise one peeped outside and noticed. The wildflowers that grew prettily once began to regain their pigmented colour and their stems standing stronger and firmer. As they thought collectively "thank heavens the spell is working . giants land is reforming to it's grand beauty once more. " as the wise once smiled and goliath then sighed a relief at the sight. They were not to know yet, that the wizards work was in fact having an impact so great, that the raging plague, was losing it's grip on the forests . talking apple trees. Who were formerly in a state of decay and demise. Regained a healthy complexion. As wild deer and the wild berries were regaining a clean bill of health, and their lustre . as was the caves therein.

As goliath then said astonished "do you mean wise one, that we're free of this disease. You mean the plague has ceased ?"

The wise one replied "not completely, but give it time and it will . this spell you know . it is tremendous and I've never had to conjure it up until now".

Goliath replied "thankyou my friend for our sakes and everyone else's . I can hear kestrels cawing again . in the background, can't you?"

As goliath parted with the wise one. he could, only think of joining his dear giant brothers and relay the glad tidings , no doubt. At the same time he was thinking "I wonder if things have changed in my borders. And if my brothers have ventured outside to find out for themselves. "

Of course Edgar and lurch , were of the strictest orders from goliath to not go outside. So in the event, they somehow froze. In a daze. Still huddled together, in that cave, but they were yet to find out, of the changing of events. The birds outside were, fluttering once again. The deer roaming the emerald green forests and the other animals and some swimming in the lake. The fish that was !

And no doubt the heinous trolls, were aroused by the occurrence and not forgetting those nasty polar bears. As goliath in mammoth strides. Strode the hard ground in haste. Metre by metre . kilometre upon kilometre. As he finally neared his cave and his brothers were waiting as he nearly stumbled a few times and nearly fell to the ground. He had made it home. no doubt he was relieved , but extremely tired at the same time.

As goliath clasped eyes on his brothers, whilst entering the mouth of the cave he screamed in joy "Edgar, lurch. You'll never believe when I tell you. It's done. The reversal the unthinkable. The wise one has cured us. Broken the curse of the surmounting plague. Giants land can live again and everything upon it, including us brothers ".

Edgar replied "wow. Your not just saying it for the sake of it. Giving us false hope are you?"

Goliath replied " No no . on the contrary the magic worked . what a great soul the wise one is. Phenomenal I'd say".

Lurched overjoyed and replied "really. Is it true we are free . oh my word. I just can't get around this".

Goliath replied "come brothers let's see for ourselves by going outside".

As they all ventured outside, they looked upon the open skies for answers , which never came back with a reply . as their calling was falling upon deaf ears, but at least, they were now satisfied as were all things and all beings, that resided on giants land. And their future was as ever topsy turvy . unpredictable and open to tragedies , trials and tribulations at any given moment, no doubt!

after the plague . the wise one decided whilst in his cave of wonders to consult the grand wizard, 'Zard'. Through telepathy as the grand wizard came before him . almost holographic as he asked "so what summons do you have for me being here?"

the wise one replied "well there's been atrocities. One after the other. Almost like the beads on a pearl necklace . what is instore for giants land, oh grand wizard? Will the polar bears succeed and attack again, although I know this much, that the giants will stand their ground again and annihilate them, no doubt".

The grand wizard replied intently "no don't assume anything in this case, for they are lethal and gathering their bears, from all corners of this land. For a battle seems of made up of many proportions . so be wary of this and prepare them".

The wise one grimaced a great deal and awkwardly replied "so we've been dealt many a blow and tell me of the children. What do you see their future in England. Is it permanent or do you think they will perhaps return to us one day?"

The grand wizard replied "they, the children will find it very difficult to find giants land. Or us for that matter. For you know the landscape positioning alters. Almost camouflaged by walls of foliage. The geometry has it's own course. They must never return, for the consequences would meet them. As you must make the giants aware of this. So please treat our existence as a long exhaustive one. with calamities , that could overwhelm us. At any given moment. Now I hope you have some answers . by all means not all solutions can be fulfilled .

Giants land it's peacekeeper is you and those giants and it's eco system. So maintain this, for the future will have upturns and events beyond our control ".

The wise one replied "thankyou . I hope we have the ability to prosper . I will keep an avid eye on matters ahead, but thanks for your indebted advice". With that the grand wizard vanished, the wise one knew , that giants land, could be submerged in glory or doom. Heaven forbid the latter !

The wise one made it his duty to travel to the east borders to share this new revelation, with the giants the next morning as he set off. He travelled by his trusted horse 'sheen'. If lightening struck . he was in fact faster on horseback no doubt. As he rode his horse in full stead. Hours expired as he neared the giants lair, as he then finally dismounted and then walked a few yards to their cave as he shouted "goliath, Edgar and lurch are you all in here?"

Of course goliath was in his cave , but the others had left earlier to chop fell and chop trees for woodfire as he leaned towards goliath and bared his soul in a sense very important information, for the giants to hear as he said "goliath I have some revelation for you to share with your brothers and this is not to track ever the humans down. Let the be. Continue as you all are and have to take the lead".

Goliath responded nervously as he replied "well if all you have said is true, which I know is true. I promise I will not try to make contact with the children and will tell the others of this ".

The wise one became neutral with emotion as he said "well then I've got that off my chest then so you said the others are chopping wood. Shall I stay a little while then with you?"

Goliath replied "yes, if you would like to, but tell me of those hideous polar bears and the trolls are they, any threat to us still?"

The wise one replied "yes, they are your nemesis . so never let your guard down. Remember I'm not so far afield. If you ever need me. You just have to make that, journey. But we live in fear . all of us that is. Peace is but a lilt. It will fluctuate. Giants land must be protected by us all. For generations of giants from your clan, yet to come. Your lineage one day, perhaps will prosper . for everything like the moon has a eclipse . a shadow passes and then as the light is let in making it full. Remember this ".

Goliath nodded in agreement, they both sat there in awe of the moment, for now !





CHAPTER NINE - SUPREMACY

The battle for supremacy was on the rise, once more. As Zarnos stood by the glaciers, with his new formed army of polar bears. They all looked poised for a long discussion, no doubt. As Zarnos said "polar bears this is our time. We now have a new bear. Who is ten times stronger and his name is 'mantle'. He has never lost a fight or a battle at that. He fought at the battle of 'zar'.

In the south against the centurions and annihilated many of their clan. Gather closer let me introduce him to you all . as Mantle came forward and announced himself . the crowd became elated and roared to the top of their lungs, as he said "yes, Zarnos is right. By my own omission . I am the strongest bear you'll find out there and I will help you all destroy the giants . once and for

All. Heed my words. This will happen".

The polar bears roared even louder to the sound of his words of encouragement. And fully believed him to be who he perceived himself to be. Sceptically the greatest bear to exist !

Now began their meticulous task . a plan to overthrow goliath and his brothers. And all that, the wise one had aforementioned was materialising . in fact it was true , that Zarnos 's hatred grew day by day. As he couldn't forget his defeat in the east. Against those very giants, which wouldn't welter or dimmish by anything or anyone, for now.

Meanwhile the were unaware , that they could be overthrown at any given interval. As they went about their daily routines . Zarnos appeared to find an army again. Mantle now being their spearhead. As they robed themselves in armoured gear and then as they set off instantaneously towards the east . to meet confrontation, it seemed and somehow relishing this notion of a win.

As they all crossed swamps so deep , that if you fell in to one. you almost couldn't hoist yourself up or be recovered. They passed lakes and caves, that were wide and twinkling with much commanding presence. As Zarnos ordered his army to halt for rest. For they knew their journey ultimately depended on their full alertness for the task in hand !

The polar bears undoubtedly would have a fight on their hands and the giants for now, would be oblivious to this unforeseeable attack. As they themselves retorted to peace upon giants land, but in the event, would at the same time be ready to protect themselves and their territory , from nasty beasts. That of polar bears in large.

As Zarnos and mantle and the rest of his clan progressed in travel. Almost by day and by night. On their treacherous course. Knowing no limits. A vengeance now so great, that it excluded them of any recognition of humility. They were a menacing lot, no doubt. As they rested therein several times by the caves and drank freshwater from the streams in their plenty.

And they devoured deer, that mantle had managed to kill with his bare paws. Through what could be described as great hunts. As the weather was unpredictable and changed constantly from dry skies and then heavy rainfall. And thick molten clouds. The polar bears after several days, were nearing their target.

The giants meanwhile lay asleep almost dormant. Within their cave. Even their trusted friends the kestrels and especially aerial didn't spot any danger. As the polar bears moved meticulously towards their cave. And it was insight as mantle then charged with vigour straight through the mouth of the giants dwelling. Whilst the goliath and the others lay fast asleep. Then alarmingly the giants, were stirred by the sudden commotion. As mantle then attacked imminently as he lunged forward . then with his giant paws with razor sharp claws and teeth pounced, almost as he bite deep in to lurches jugular vein. As lurch gasped and choked and his giants blood oozed from his neck. And mouth. His brothers were too late to intervene, as this altercation happened within a split second, no doubt. And therefore could not restrain mantle in the event.

As they initially beat him up trying in vain to stop him . his bite was so ferocious , that they didn't have a chance to save lurch. Mantle was far bulkier than the average polar bear and his body armour was much more tort. As the polar bears, that remained also charged at the giants. Forcing them outside through a great tussle amongst them all. It was full pelt as they, all trampled outside. The fight became severe and bloodshed was hefty on both sides.

As the giants were injured a great deal. As was some of Zarno's clan. But mantle was formidable . their secret weapon in a sense as he dismantled the giants coordination and left them seething and unsure of their next tactic. If there was any tactic worth exploring in the event. As lurch sighed his last breath. Inside his voice faltered and then the unthinkable. He eventually succumbed to his injury and died.

Zarnos screamed "well done. Well done mantle. I'm truly pleased with you. Those giants are so lame. I vowed revenge and it is sweet as honey, no doubt . goliath bow down to me. Give up your desire for giants land and you and your brothers now condemn yourselves to exile. It's best you did and that means all of you ".

Goliath had tears streaming down the side of his face. After his other brother Edgar had brought him news , that lurch had been taken from them suddenly, by mantles hand of destruction , had made him then cower and brought him to his knees in destitution . a desperate and broken giant in the face of atrocity, surrounded his being. As he too succumbed to silence. So did Edgar . as the place now resembled a morgue, with dead bodies and pools of blood in every corner or patch , were visible.

Zarnos shouted again "it's over giants. Make your peace with your maker or make it with me. Surrender yourselves?"

Goliath almost freaked as images or even the last image of lurch pervaded him. Lying there silent. A picture of devastation and the un fallible truth, that giants land had fallen finally. Straight in to the hands of these perpetrators . these heinous polar bears and Zarnos in particular no doubt. The tables had turned , but for how long?!!
