They met for ice cream the next day. Casual plans, nothing huge. Just sweet things on warm pavement, laughter as glue.
Benjamin ordered vanilla with honey drizzle. Donny got cherry. Christopher picked mint chocolate chip and immediately regretted it.
But between bites, things shifted. It started with Benjamin licking a drip from his wrist and laughing. Donny stared a moment too long. Then Christopher leaned forward, eyes soft, saying, "You have the best laugh."
Benjamin quieted. "You say that like you mean it."
"I do."
Donny added, "It's like joy forgot how to be shy."
The three of them sat in a small triangle on the bench. Legs pressed together. Ice cream melting. Time stretching.
Then Benjamin asked, low and trembling, "Would it be okay if I…?"
He didn't finish the sentence. But the way his hand slid carefully, gently, toward Donny's - hovering, not touching - said enough.
Donny nodded. Their fingers met.
Christopher watched, eyes full and wide, then softly reached out and laid his hand over both of theirs.
No declarations. No roles. Just warm pressure, the feeling of belonging, and the quiet rhythm of shared pulse beneath skin.
The moment wasn't dramatic. It was real. They deserved this.
