Nothing crazy ever really happens in a small town. That is until the night of October 9 in a small town of Bullard located in southeast Texas. The year was 2005 and the population was barely over 700, you couldn’t go to the one grocery store in town without seeing a majority of your neighbors. The largest graduating class was 34 and all of the graduates leave town before the celebration is even over. The football team is barely big enough to compete, however they are always good and the baseball team is lucky to have enough players for contention. All of the teenagers are known for having the dip can ring in their back pockets and the gun racks in the back of their of their trucks.

The things that teenagers used to do for fun including hitting the mudholes going down school house road, and crusing broadway with their diesel trucks, running three wide twenty trucks deep covering the road with their black smoke. Everytime the kids in the town had any issues with each other they all gathered in the parking lot behind the school circling their trucks around so their headlights make a lit up arena. They would then get out of their trucks and stand by them to watch the show, letting the two kids that had the issue duke it out. After the conflict was over they would shake hands and move on, both respecting each other weather they won or lost. All was quite in the small town with the kids finding that small town love that they thought would last forever, thinking that life would never get better than the moment they were living in.

The school year of 2005 had ended and the year of 2006 was starting, some new kids came into the light that hadn’t been in the school the previous year, one of them named Brennon Stellar. Brennon was the type of kid that just wanted to fit in with the other kids in the school, however he was also the type of kid that would do or say whatever it took to be the cool kid. All was well with that until the day of the dare. The kids decided that they were all going to hit school house road and make a day out of it instead of going to school. Tucker showed up to the group in his loud 2001 24 valve diesel, when he hopped out of the truck we all knew that he wasn’t okay. His eyes were blood shot, his hair was a mess, he looked as if he hadn’t slept in days. We immediately went to him and asked if he was okay? The answer was a simple no, my dad has been beatin on me and my mother again, I wish someone would just take em out. To a normal person this would just be the jibberish that we all talked to each other when we were upset, but to Brennon it was his shot in the spotlight.

To ease some of the tension that Tucker was having, some of the boys and thought that it would be a good idea to gather the little bit of of money that we had, and run down to the Fishermans mart and grab some cheap beer for us all to drink on make it all go away. We all knew the owner of the gas station and as long as he was making money he didn’t care who bought what. We all hopped in our trucks went to the station and bought a couple thirty pack of natural light “ The cheapest thing that we could find to be honest.” After purchasing the alcohol some of us split ways after deciding we would meet up in the field at the end of school house road, and we got some pallets to make a bon fire. Eventually we all ended up in the field no one keeping track of anyone just all of us enjoying the time we were having. The fire grew bigger and bigger and the beer count continued to grow.

The cops in this small town always knew we were partying and they didn’t really care as long as we kept the stupidity down and didn’t get into any trouble. Tucker noticed that there was a large hay bail out in the middle of the field and decided it would be a fun time to just take a couple shots at it. We all agreed of course so we took our beers opened the doors sat the ammo from the back seat into the driver’s seat and we decided we’d take turns shooting the guns in each truck one at a time. From one truck to the next we went that is until we got to the truck back in the back carrying the pallets. When we went to grab the 12 guage that was sitting in the truck we quickly noticed that the box of ammo was missing out of the drivers seat and that the Gun in the back rack was also missing. Without a mis step we simply asked who had taken the gun out. No one responded. The question was asked again a little more seriously, still no response. Finally tucker and I asked if anyone was missing, we did our small rolecall and realized that Brennon was no where to be found. Quickly I asked does anyone have any idea where this dude lives or why he would of taken the gun with the ammo? Again there was no response.

We all tried keeping our cool and continued on with our night thinking without knowing anything about what the real world could of done to us that he probably just went out shooting some armadillos or something. Little did we know that our worlds were about to flip upside down. another hour maybe two had passed and the beers had already started cycling through us via vomit or pee. Still enjoying ourselves living in the moment when all of a sudden the red and blues lit up the whole field. Normally we would think that officer Johnson was coming out to pay us his normal night time visit. However both of the cop cars that we had in the town were coming out together with their lights on. As the worries began setting in on us all we could do is wait for the conversation to begin. Officer Johnson an extremely large mad quickly hopped out of the car, with his crooked mustached side kick running up beside him. He quickly asked “ which one of you fellas left this party tonight?” He then continued “ I know one of you did or else I wouldn’t be here right now.” We all looked at each other and responded none of us left this field tonight. The conversation then heated up fast and I mean real fast when he stated “ If i don’t find out who left here you all will be under arrest for murder.” Now all of us were terrified not knowing what in the world had happened or could of happened. Tucker stepped forward and simply said honestly officer Johnson none of us have left this field tonight we had some beers and were shooting at a hay bail, but thats it. Officer Johnson quickly replied “ Someone stole the security truck from Eagles Bluff ( which is a gated super rich community in this area) took it over to Tuckers house hit his dad over the head with the butt of the shot gun he was carrying drug his dad outside and tied him up.” Our hearts all dropped we knew that he thought at this moment it was one of us for the simple fact that we all hated that man for what he had done to our friend. Tucker responded “Is is my dad… dead?” Officer Johnson let out a deep sigh…. and responded “ son when we arrived to the scene there was nothing but a mangled mess left of you father, I’m sorry son I know what you have been through over the last few years is horrible but please tell me you didn’t do this?” Tucker broke down and sgt crooked stache took him to the side to talk to him in piece. Officer Johnson looked at us and said “ look boys I know it was someone in this group, I don’t blame yall but i NEED SOME ANSWERS” with a stern voice. I looked at all the boys and begin telling him the story from the start on how we simply wanted to get his mind off of the situation that he was in, I told him about us pulling out the guns and starting to shoot the hay bails… then i paused… Officer Johnson, “it just clicked when we were setting up the guns to shoot the hay bail we noticed one of the guns were missing and the new guy that started hanging out with us was missing as well. He said “ whats the boys name and where does he live?” we all started saying at the same time Brennan Stellar, with a chime of no idea where he lives. He stated “ don’t move” as he began walking back to his car. Several minutes passed before he came back to us and said “ you boys realize this kid has several domestic violence charges, drug possession charges, and attempted murder charges in Dallas?” We all began to pannic as a call came over the radio and stated “ Officer Johnson this is Tyler pd we found your stolen vehicle in front of 377 north broadway avenue the suspect is believed to be in the building armed and barricaded.” Officer Johnson responded to them and the responded to us “ you boys don’t leave this field.”

Officer Johnson and his sidekick immedietely hopped into their squad cars and peeled out of the field lights and sirens blaring. We all turned to each other saying we are going right? Tucker came over and said I am.. We immediately told him to go check on his mother and we got this. We all hopped in our trucks flying down the back roads racing to the location. As we arrived we quickly noticed that Bullard and Tyler Pd including the task force team of Tyler had the building surrounded with their weapons drawn. The cops were coming up with a plan to go into the building and get Brennan out. Hours passed still without a move each minute felt like years as they passed. Finally the team formed up and stormed the doors of the ran down hotel, minutes later they came back guns down stating to the other officers that there was a suicide with a note. Officer Johnson immediately came over to us and said that he would like us to all meet him at the station for a conversation.

One by one we completed our interviews until it was my turn. I walked in there not knowing if I was tired, scared, or angry. Officer Johnson asked if I had any idea what had happened that night, I responded bits and pieces. He said “ Brennan had knocked Tuckers dad out with the butt of a shot gun drug him outside to the stolen security truck where he tied Tucker’s dad up with chains around his feet and to the back of the stolen security truck, where he then drug him through the city of Bullard. A truck driver coming through town had found the body and called 911, Brennan then fled the scene to the hotel off of Broadway, where he took his life after leaving a suicide note stating: My whole life I just wanted to fit in, everytime I did I found myself in trouble, I justed wanted someone to love me for once, it never happened. This is the last time I will do the wrong thing to the first real friends that I ever had I hope this is enough for you all to see what this meant to me. Now I know that Tuckers dad will never hurt him again and I will die knowing what it is like to have true friends.”

This story is not true, but the moral of it is. People are always looking to fit in, be nice because you never know how it is going to affect the person that you are facing. Kindness could completely change someones life where as the other way around could completely ruin it. Love as you want to be loved because life is to short and it could end at any moment. I hope you enjoyed thanks for reading.
