Since time immemorial, humanity has searched for light - not only in the rising sun or the burning flame, but in the quiet depths of the heart. What is this light? It is love.
Love is not merely affection or desire; it is the radiant spark that awakens meaning in our lives. Without love, even abundance feels empty. With love, even simplicity glows with richness. Love is not something we possess - it is something that possesses us, transforms us, and connects us to something greater than ourselves.
As the sages prayed:
सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः, सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः।
सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यन्तु, मा कश्चिद्दुःखभाग्भवेत्॥
(Vsarve bhavantu sukhinah, sarve santu niramaya sarve bhadrani pashyantu, maa kashchidduhakhabhaveti)
(May all beings be happy; may all be free from illness.
May all behold what is auspicious, may none suffer in misery.)
These are not merely hopes - they are the echoes of a truth we know deep within: that love is the root of all well-being. Compassion, kindness, empathy - all these are just expressions of the same divine current that flows through all hearts.
In the endless race of existence, where ambition blinds and possessions slip away, we often find ourselves restless, incomplete, adrift in shadows. We chase success, power, pleasure - yet remain hungry. In those moments, what rescues us is not wealth, not status, not even knowledge - but love.
Love is the ray that cuts through despair, the gentle warmth that makes life worth living. It is the only light that does not cast a shadow.
The Bhagavad Gita, that timeless conversation between the Divine and the seeker, reveals the immortal nature of this love:
भक्त्या मामभिजानाति यावान्यश्चास्मि तत्त्वतः।
ततो मां तत्त्वतो ज्ञात्वा विशते तदनन्तरम्॥
(bhaktya mambhijanati yavanyashchasmi tattvataha tato maan tattvato gyatva vishte tadanantaram)
(Through love and devotion, one truly knows Me as I am.
Knowing Me thus, one enters into My being.)
Here, devotion is not blind emotion - it is the purest form of knowing. In love, we do not analyze; we understand. We do not conquer; we surrender. And in that surrender, we become whole.
Love is the path, and love is the goal. It is the radiant thread binding all life, the unseen fabric on which the universe rests. The Upanishads whisper:
यत्र विश्वं भवत्येकनीडम्।
(Where the whole universe becomes one nest.)
What is this nest, if not love? What is it that can hold stars and souls in the same embrace, if not love?
True love does not perish. It is not bound by time or distance, name or form. It is the only light that grows brighter the more it is given. In love, we discover not only the other, but our own self - pure, boundless, luminous.
As the Rig Veda reminds us:
एकं सद्विप्रा बहुधा वदन्ति। (ekam sadvipra bahudha vadanti)
(The One is called by many names - and that One is Love itself.)
This book, like a small lamp in a vast night, carries a ray of that same ancient love. It does not claim to have answers, but it does carry the longing - to remember, to return, and to radiate. If these words kindle even a small warmth in your heart, let that be a beginning.
For in the end, all journeys lead back to love.
Love is the beginning, the journey, and the home.
Let us keep the thread alive. Let us hold it with care, and pass it on - brighter, gentler, stronger.
