It was the 25th annual Kelly-Astaire Dance Competition. Everyone who ever tapped, waltzed, jitter-bugged, or two-stepped was there. And everyone there wanted one thing - the coveted golden dance shoes trophy.

The competition was fierce. The favorites to win were Fred and Ginger with their steamy mambo-rhumba hybrid performance. That is until Ginger tripped on her ball gown and broke her heel, tumbling to the dance floor in a heap of taffeta and feathers.

Gasps echoed through the dance hall. The sighs of relief of the other competitors rumbled like thunder. For the first year in many the Lindy Hoppers and the Hucklebuckers had a chance.

And when the moment came to announce the grand champions of the most prestigious dance competition in the world, more huffs and puffs of surprise rolled through the crowd.

There was a tie. Something that had never happened in the history of the event. But, the judges explained, the co-winners were both remarkable. And so it was Chubby with his Twist and Danny with his spicy Peppermint Twist taking home the gold, much to the chagrin of all the classical dancers who found no amusement in this little plot twist.
