I was taken in by a wealthy family, and soon found myself living with their eldest daughter, Giulia. She was a bit strange, always hiding something, but I didn't think too much of it at first. It wasn't until I met Marco, the detective on the hunt for Antonio's killer, that things started to get interesting.
It was at a grand dance ball where I first met Marco. He was charming and witty, and as we danced, I found myself drawn to him. But as we talked, I couldn't help but feel like there was something off about the way he was looking at me. It wasn't until he started asking questions about my past that I realized he was suspicious of me.
"Forgive me for being so blunt, Signorina Isabella, but you seem to have come out of nowhere," Marco said, twirling me around the ballroom.
"I suppose I have," I replied with a smile, hoping to ease his suspicions.
"I can't help but wonder what brings you to Rome," he continued.
"I needed a change of scenery," I said coyly, trying to avoid the truth.
As we continued to dance, Marco's gaze grew more intense. Suddenly, he stopped and looked me.
"I know who did it," he said, his voice low and urgent.
My heart raced as I looked at him, waiting for him to elaborates.
"It was Giulia," he said finally.
I felt my blood run cold. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"But...why?" I managed to stammer.
Marco looked at me gravely. "I don't know. But I intend to find out."
As Marco's suspicion of Giulia grew stronger, I found myself conflicted between my loyalty to the family and my feelings for him. I began to wonder if Marco would think ill of me if he knew the truth about what happened that night with Antonio. You see, that night Antonio tried to make advances towards me, but Giulia happened to be passing by. In a fit of rage, she killed Antonio to protect me, and we made the decision that I would come live with her family for my own safety, leaving my old life behind.
Despite the secrets we kept, Marco continued with his investigation and eventually uncovered the truth about what had happened that night. It turned out that Giulia had killed Antonio in a crime of passion and had never intended to harm anyone. She confessed to Marco, and although it was a relief to have the truth out in the open, it was also bittersweet knowing that our family would never be the same.
As the night of the ball draws to a close, Isabella and Marco share a last dance. He leans in to whisper in her ear, "I'm glad it's over."
Isabella looks up at him, relieved. "Me too."
As Marco takes his leave, Isabella lingers behind, watching as the guests make their way out of the ballroom. She notices Giulia slip away from the crowd, and she follows her discreetly.
Giulia seems to be in a hurry, and Isabella struggles to keep up with her. Finally, she sees Giulia disappear into a dark alleyway. Isabella hesitates, then decides to follow her.
As she rounds the corner, Isabella sees Giulia standing there, facing a figure in the shadows. She can't make out who it is, but she can hear their conversation."You need to leave this alone," Giulia says, her voice low and urgent. "
