The mystery of the stolen diamond
The atmosphere was dark and eerie, and there was a cool drizzle. There were tall buildings towering on both sides casting a big black shadow and in the middle of the street, a mysterious woman in a cloak was reading a newspaper. She came across an eye-catching headline reporting the shocking news of the heist of a precious and beautiful diamond. The mastermind of the heist was thought to be none other than Leonardo Fosarcelli, Head of the notorious group called the “Red Devils”.
Normally, this wouldn’t incite her much, but the newspaper article had made it personal, by printing the exact words,” Can the ‘shrewd’ detective Charlotte Chavez solve this case?”. She thought that it must have been a simple robbery, but by the end of the article, she was proven wrong on all accounts. It was a cleverly plotted theft. The robbers had broken in and stolen the diamond with no available proof. The neighborhood had a power cut at the exact time of the robbery. she had to take things into her own hands.
So first, she went down 36th Robinson road to the museum where the diamond was stolen, not knowing what to do she checked the CCTV camera, she had the privilege to do so considering the fact that she was both a certified detective and a close friend of the director of the museum. To her surprise, the thieves had sprayed the cameras with some liquid. She then asked Mr. Olivander, the security chief, to check the footage of CCTV cameras of nearby shops.
As she checked the cameras, she was surprised, as the thieves were none other than the “Red devils”. To her relief, they had forgotten to cover the outside CCTV and it had captured the number plate of their bikes. After a long session of searching for evidence, Chavez came out to the street. There was not a single soul in view and there was only the sound of the howling of the street dogs and light rain. She looked at her watch, it was almost eleven o clock. She took out her umbrella and walked to her home. She took the short-cut walk to her cottage beside an old railway station. She reached home and sat on her couch after making herself dinner. The little information she had about the heist played in her mind repeatedly.
The next evening, In the port of Liverpool, the yacht of the wealthy count of Mogadishu was ready to set sail. He was on an important business overseas. A diamond was to be delivered to him on a lonely island. A seller who introduced himself as a Spanish Millionaire wanted to sell his Antique Diamond for a large sum of money. As the count liked collecting Antiques, he accepted the transaction.
People assembled along the port Quay awaiting the ship to set sail; a man who looked like a sailor was talking to the local customs office. Local rustics hovered along the quay, the news of the selling of a diamond had spread like wildfire. someone from the ship had spilled the beans. Among the common folk were a group of highly trained military personnel and senior customs officers. They were to be the guards of the precious diamond when the transaction took place.
A few hours later after crossing the beautiful and infamous Caribbean Sea, the count of Mogadishu had finally reached his destination. He was accompanied by a woman assistant as well as two male bodyguards. An hour or so later, he met a man with a pale complexion who had a thick beard and a mole on his left chin. This person was none other than the Italian millionaire, Mr. Adriano De La Ponte. The count could have sworn that he had seen that man somewhere in the newspaper but couldn’t get a hang of it, he had simply assumed that it was probably for his achievements and his possession of the diamond. Being an Antique enthusiast, The Count inquired about the history of the diamond and how he was in possession of it. Adriano spoke with a deep Italian accent, he explained that his family line dated to the 1800s, and as he was the heir of a family fortune had the diamond in his possession. They then conversed for a long time. After bidding goodnight to the sleepy count, he swiftly went to his cabin for the night.
As the yacht neared the island, the cool breeze from the tropical sea blew softly in the morning. Everyone had assembled on the deck to see the transaction, but they were disappointed as it took place in a reserved room. A special force soldier stood near the door outside and many customs men assembled the CCTV to view the ongoing transaction.
As the transaction was taking place, the cameras went out. Everyone got alert and many men entered the room. But the millionaire had disappeared and the count was coughing wildly as the room was covered in smoke. The window viewing the open sea was broken and the count exclaimed that the millionaire had stolen his money and taken the diamond.
The culprit was none other than the mastermind who had plotted the entire heist, Leonardo Fosarcelli. Everyone was in shock and horror. Then suddenly, came the sound of motor blades lashing the sea, the master robber had escaped with a motorboat. Following him in hot pursuit, was a young woman. It was none other than our protagonist, Charlotte Chavez. Two men from the special forces also accompanied her.
Leonardo fired many missiles toward Chavez but missed. The sea was covered with explosions, Leonardo’s men had arrived in a helicopter and they were planning to airlift him. He stood up to reach the rope desperately trying to control the motorboat amid the raging waves of the sea. Fortunately, the boat hit a reef and it jerked violently making him fall into the raging sea. His accomplices inside the helicopter were chased by another team of police in a helicopter. Leonardo was quickly captured and handcuffed. Chavez and her team were able to bring him to the ship without any further encounters.
Chavez had brilliantly planned a scheme to get hold of the Red Devils. Chavez had a few things running in her mind that night. Firstly about the robbery of the diamond and the rumors she had heard about the Spanish Millionaire who wanted to sell his diamond. Both the events took place in the same week and the most logical thing for the Red Devils to do would be to sell the diamond as soon as possible and escape the city immediately. It wouldn’t be tough for them to get caught in such a small city with high security.
She was in touch with a sailor inside the yacht of the Count; this person had revealed the secret to the whole city. Since she had helped him secure a job, he was willing to help her. He had given the photo of this millionaire to Chavez. The plan went smoothly according to Chavez, as she found out that the face of the Spanish millionaire and Leonardo had a similar resemblance. The Red Devils were spotted talking with the millionaire in the dead of the night by Chavez. She now had proof that the Millionaire was none other than Leonardo.
CID officers who were called about an hour ago had finally arrived ready to arrest the Red Devils. The criminal group was arrested and the news spread far and wide. The diamond was returned back to the museum.
It was revealed that the count had many such antiques stolen from the museum; he had to return those to the museum. The police assured that the “red devils” would have a sound trial for their notorious crimes. They also added additional security to these precious antiques, lest they get stolen again. Chaves was praised by all the people for her intelligence and sharp skills in solving the mystery of the stolen diamond. Chavez had started working on her next mission, and everyone lived peacefully ever after.
