It's 9:45 p.m. summer sunday night in Missouri. Jack a nightshift custodian, is currently sound asleep, after a long night out with some buddies. Robbie, Jack's older brother just arrived home and upon entering realizes Jack is running late for work. Robbie races into Jack's room " hey loser your gonna lose your job don't screw this up! " Jack quickly jumps up and puts his custodial clothes on and hops on his bike, then arrives to his job location. " Dammit i forgot my mask ! " Once Jack realized that he forgot his mask, Jack's supervisor walks around the corner and yells " Jack! your late again! " Jack sighs and yells " Jeb i gotta head back and grab my mask! " Jack turns around and then suddenly a mask is thrown from behind him. Jack turns around then catches Marissa gazing at him with a smirk. Marissa is a lab tech for the medicine institution. Jack picks up the mask and yells " Thanks. "
While walking past the lab, Jack hears a loud celebration from scientists and personnel. " What the ?!" When Jack realizes what's going on, he chuckles and gives a sigh of relief. " Did i just hear them correctly, they just found a cure for this virus!" Jack thinks to himself " wow maybe things can get back to normal. " Jack looks at his cellphone and is about to text his older brother Robbie. " Get to work Jack! " No slacking ! " yells Jeb, Jacks's boss. " Sure thing ." replied Jack. One month later, as Jack is in his apartment working on his bike, Robbie walks in the door. Jack asked " off work early dummy?" ' Robbie chuckles and replies " yeah i feel like crap dude ever since i taken that medicne, i been feeling like this and it's been a week. " Jack looks up with a concerning look. " Bro you should see a doctor." Robbie suddenly collapse onto the kitchen floor.
Jack races over to an unconscious Robbie, then Jack calls first responders. Hours later while at work, Jack runs into Marissa down the hall. " hey Marissa can i ask you something? " Marissa responds " sure, but i don't have a mask this time. " both laugh. " My brother fell ill and is in the hospital, well, ever since after taking the pill, he's just been getting sicker, is this a normal side effect? " Soon as Jack asked the question, Marissa held her head down and nervously replied " i've got to get back to work Jack. " Marissa speed walked away in a hurry. Jack stares down Marissa as she walked down the hall. " What the hell was that about ?! " Jack curiously said to himself.
Meanwhile, as Jack is walking and pushing his dustbroom down the hall, his cellphone rings. " Hello? " Jack answered. " Hey bro, we're gonna have to cancel going out tonight, somethings up with me man ! " Jack's best friend Tim is ill. "ah ok dude, well get some rest i'll check up later. " Jack replied. Now at this moment, Jack's suspicions are intensifying as he is starting to connect the dots in people becoming ill after taking this so-called magic pill. Tim, Jack's best friend had already taken the pill a week prior. A few hours later, while on break Jack tracks down Marisaa in the break room. " Marissa i have to ask you something, earlier when i asked you about if you knew of any side effects with this medicine, you behaved weird, now my brother, bestfriend, and not to mention countless others are coming up with this strange illness after taking this pill, what's goin on ? " Marissa replied " Jack your reading into this too heavy."
Jack could sense that she was behaving nervously and odd. Taking notice of her behavior " you can't hide it very well, i want to know what's going on ! " Jack said seriously. " you know something ! " Marissa looks up at Jack and before she could say anything, a soft masculine voice replies " i want to know something too, how many more lives will be saved ? " The voice of the famous doctor who invented the cure. Jack looks at the doctor confused " huh ? " Oh i'm Dr. Seale. " the doctor extends his arm to shake Jack's hand. Jack looks down at the doctor's hand and shakes his hand.
