One fateful autumn evening, a freak storm swept through Maplewood. The winds howled, and rain lashed against windows as Jake worked late in his workshop. Suddenly, a loud crash echoed through the night. Rushing outside, he found Ryan's car flipped over on the side of the road, the driver's side pinned beneath a fallen tree.
Without thinking, Jake rushed to help. He pried open the door and pulled Ryan from the wreckage just as flames began to lick at the car's interior. The adrenaline coursing through him drowned out years of resentment as he dragged Ryan to safety.
"Why did you help me?" Ryan gasped, his face pale and shaken.
"Because despite everything, I'm not heartless," Jake replied, his voice steady but his heart racing for reasons he couldn't yet understand.
